Long distance dream -anyone?
You know the feeling...Years go by and ...one just doesn't get around to it....so ... To the point:

I am looking to meet up with GS owners who would like to discuss & plan a long haul trip to far places

I have not created any itineraries yet and would like to go probably during 2nd quarter 2005. I am based in the South East near Beckenham, Kent

If this appeals to you and you have the time, the motivation and funds (not to mention a GS! :D ), please get in touch either here or directly by email to [email protected]

Tempus Fugit.....Carpe Diem!
:)

You sound keen Bert, that's three times you've said the same thing.

rapid index!!

What can I say but Tempus Fugit!
The future is so uncertain these days that I believe it is best to 'get-on-with-it' and it would be good to share such a trip with a few like-minded people :D
apologies for repetion!

BOZ,Met you at Inverary the day after you got your 12 (I was on my red Daytona).See youve experienced trouble with your bike.I think my decision to go GSA as opposed to 12 has been made up.Any update?

Hey,

Hows it going? Well I have been able to sort the problem so I'm now up and running. I can see why you would want to go with the ADV but the 1200 is a blast!!

I'm currently trying to plan my way round the world, which is going to take some planning and resource but well worth it. So have you bought a new bike or are you happy with the Daytona?

Cheers

Nik

Daytona wrapped in garage, rider totally frustrated but i know that it,ll be in a state if i use it the way the roads are now.Going to buy GS again to get back to year round riding.Too much power for me on the D,given the way I ride and the type of usage my bikes get.Lovely bike but to focused and impractical.Cheers

all men dream

hi bert
Just a bit of motorvtion mate

All men dream ; but not equally
those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their mind.
wake to find it was just vanity, but
The dreamers of the day are dangerous men,for they may act with open eyes to make possable

go for it

Hi Bert - I'm based in Greenhithe in Kent and also dreaming of buggering off for a couple of weeks - any ideas on where you want to go yet?

Hi Bert

Go for it. Dont make too detailed an itinerary as you'll miss out on the pleasure of experiencing whatever is around you. More relaxing to just go with the flow, follow your nose so to speak. Don't compromise on the extent of your travels unless you really have to . I did some travelling in India and Nepal a while back. I had originally intended going london to sydney but work wouldn't give me the leave I wanted, job was unique and so satisfying that I feared not getting such a job again if I packed it all up, major regrets that I didn't. Still the compromised travels that I had were a great adventure in themselves and have altered my perception of the world forever. I ,mean for example that I can savour a glass of tap water and feel so fortunate that I don't risk some awfull disease by drinking it. Also best to travel light( I eneded up putting a whole rucksack of usefull but unnecessary stuff into storage whil on my travels), learn how to repair anything that might happen to your bike and work out how to source parts and courior them to wherever you are in the world. Keeping it simple might also mean keeping to a simple bike such as an older R100/80GS check out more on http://www.rgs.org/pdf/Overland.pdf You'll probably enjoy reading about others that have done it too. This link is about women who went riding all over the place but the site has other good stuff too http://www.berndtesch.de/English/Continents/Women.html The touratech book selection is very limited as it only has currently printed books . there have been a lot of great books written over the years and they are worth a look.
Best of Luck

Bill
