GS1200 OUTSIDE TEMP PROBLEMS

Have just been informed by BMW dealer (pidcocks at long eaton) that the outside temp gauge have a tolerance of 4 degrees c from correct outside temp to when the engine is running and the bike is warm. What is the point of haveing the gauge if it does not operate correctly???. Has any body else had this problem !! Good mind to go back to BMW and for my money back for the cost of the gauge as it is not fit for purpose .

It will be wrong when your sitting still because of the heat rising but it should be correct when moving and getting ambient air flowing over it.

Spot on, the sensor is under the beak, physics, hot air rises

I haven't got a puter on mine. I just know that it's bloody hot or it's bloody cold when I sit on it.

No, but there again I have never been to Pidcocks (sic) or another dealer to ask them the tolerance.

Good mind to go back to BMW and for my money back for the cost of the gauge as it is not fit for purpose .

Mine seems pretty accurate as it matches up with the signs on the autoroute, summer and winter; Today it was 2°C and it flashes on and off with a warning sign that the roads may be freezing. I find that useful. In the summer it is often up in the thirties and it gives me a figure with which to taunt my sons freezing in an English summer.

And another thing........those of them with temp sensors in the Callums Rd crew discovered in the Auvegne, a couple of weeks ago, that they only go down to -10 'C What bloody use is that

I once sat on the autoroute south of Lyon in a huge jam due to a crash, straight beneath one of the gantry signs, as the sun blazed down. It was very annoying to watch it go, 35....36.....38......41......43......

Same with mine.

As long as I ride at a minimum speed, even in very slow moving traffic, the temp gauge matches the temp on shop fronts, motorway signs and outside chemists/pharmacies/airports/pet shops/swimming pools...

Are you sure your gauge isn't in Farenheit???
