This weekend I had the rear spring on my '05 GS replaced. I ride briskly and was finding the OEM set-up lacking for me and always had the spring set on the hardest setting. This left me no adjustment when loading the bike up for touring etc... I'm very tall and about 17 stone, 18.5 kitted up. Wallaston BMW in Northampton put me on to BG Motorsport at Silverstone.

I have to say, their service, (BG), was very good. They took my details, weight, height, how I ride, pillion, type of riding etc... then sourced a spring based on that information. So now I have an Ohlins spring fitted to the OEM damper and I have to say it's made a massive difference. The turn in is so much faster, particularly when flicking the bike through a series of bends and I have some adjustability back.

It cost about £180 and took about two hours. I dealt with a chap called Ben.

Hi Donnie,

I am about to view a '09 GS1200.
I am 6' 4" and 19 stone!!! may well look into the same mod.

the price you quoted, was that with them fitting the new spring?

Bikes are sold to a wide variety of people, from riders who are 10 stone wet to those that have eaten plenty of cakes (I would be in that category) so they have to be sprung within that range. Getting suspension built for you is the single most impressive modification one can make.
