Hi BMW Riders,
new to the site and coming from Southern Ireland, praying for a break in this shi**y weather.
Have had several BMW's in the past, K1200S, K1300GT and now a R1200GS TE - great fun so far
but last weekend got a warning message on the dash for the ESA. Upon inspection can see some
oil around the suspension area - is this normal? Have called the dealer but waiting on a response.

Also the GS came with LED headlight - absolutely fantastic. Did notice some condensation inside the
lens - again is this normal?

Thanks and ride well.:aidan

Hi Aiden - welcome. What mileage / age is your GS? My 2013 LC TE rear suspension seal went around 26k mileage and needed replacing (or rebuilding). However, I didn't get any errors on the dash but could tell as bouncy when pushed down. The suspension is not serviceable so expensive if not under warranty.

I've never seen condensation inside the LED unit lense so worth asking the dealer to replace if under warranty still. Good luck.

Hi, Firefox Racing can rebuild esa shocks including two year warranty. Have had no condensation in led headlight. Good luck in sorting.

Thanks for the reply. The GS was purchased new in July '17 so still under warranty. I'll drop into the dealer and see what they have to say for themselves...:beerjug:

Good info. The bike is under warranty so should(..!!) not have any issue getting these issues resolved.

Your warranty will definitely cover those two issues. Have experienced condensation on two previous bikes on inside of Speedo and they were replaced no problem

Welcome to the site just up the road a bit

Hi Sugs, I had my LED daylight light replaced under warranty, had to take a photo of it which was then sent to BMW HQ there blessing was given and my dealer carried out the work.
welcome to the forum
cheers Simon

Folks,
managed to get to the Motorrad dealer today and they've confirmed that the rear suspension ESA motor is kaput and needs to be replaced.
Brand new bike with 1500klms on the clock ... !!

I've been advised that the headlight condensation is "normal"...

Thankfully all covered under warranty.

Safe riding .. :thumb

From BMW might help, basically saying if condensation builds up the fan drys it up.

LEDs, like all light-producing systems, generate heat but because of the enclosed nature of headlights, there is a need to incorporate a heat sink (aluminium-looking block with cooling fins) to draw away the heat via conduction. To assist in stabilising heat build up, BMW Motorrad engineers equipped the heat sink with a radial fan to draw heat away when it reaches a pre-determined temperature. The warmed air is then directed at the headlamp to reduce the possibility of condensation and help in case of ice formation overnight.
