GS650 Dakar restriction

Hi there

I bought a 2002 Dakar 2 weeks ago, but noticed that the power and top end speed seems to be down alot on the 2001 model I owned in South Africa. Could the bike maybe be restricted in anyway and if so how can I tell and how do I go about getting it de-resricted and the cost invovled.

A friend has a restricted F650CS, the restriction is done very simply by a different throttle cable mounting (at the engine end). I'm not sure of the differences in the GS but it's the same enigne isn't it, so probably the same method.
