GS800 reliability.....is it so bad?

i read your thread on advrider when first posted it and to me seemed good idea, 1 location for people to see the probs and solutions and i was surprised by the responce as i find it to be good site.

i too was looking to buy this bike and the engine probs a few people had put me off, that and i couldnt afford ti so kept my f650gs and upgraded it.

but for damn sure when i have more cash in year or two if this bike is still in production iw ill be buying one as it ticks all the boxes and has be one the nicest bikes been on too

...If my tuppence is worth anything, the GS8 is one of the most versatile and usable bikes I have ever owned... Greg
+1 Totally agree. I have owned many bikes but have kept the GS8 longer than any other for exactly as Greggers says, it's just so "versatile". Yes my chain snapped at 2k miles and I got a warranty replacement but apart from that it has been spot-on and very economical on fuel. Chain aside, I totally trust this bike to take me anywhere in any company and while I have looked, I really can't see a better bike out there for all round versatility. It's great fun too and very easy to ride and chuck about. :thumb

5,020m on my F800GS, the only slight hick-up was the rear brake fluid turning black, but flushed it thro' with new and no re-occurance. Not even adjusted the chain yet, but do grease or oil it weekly which is more than I did onmy Trophy1200, but that had a 'proper' chain!

Hope you're enjoying it!
