Hi all.
Help
My 1200gs 2006 is sick, missing under acceleration. Anyone got diagnostics or know of a good garage near Sidmouth /Exeter, where I can get an error reading, rather than swapping plugs. coils, etec etc!
Many thanks
Richard

If your plugs and/or O2 sensors are sooty it's likely to be primary coils.

What type of coil do you have? The old black type don't last very well (though 11 years isn't "too" bad). When one fails the other will be along very soon after. My No2 coil crapped out on the way home from buying the first replacement coil.

Thanks, no engine warning light, so I assume that means no error codes then.

Yes, old black type coils. Done 47,000 miles. Any way to test them?
Would be grateful to be guided to a post that would give me a sensible order of investigation, or a guide from either of you guys. Do my own servicing, but it's been years since I followed a fault like this!

Symptoms are engine slightly rough at idle, will accelerate evenly to 70 and beyond but slightly rough, but if I give it a handful of throttle it dies for a moment and misses badly, bit like running out of petrol.

My black coils smelled of hot insulation. The replacement stainless sheathed coils have never smelled of anything. If your coils smell hot they are failing.

However I've had similar symptoms from a weak fuel pump. You can test that with a direct to battery bypass lead. A weak fuel pump will show up on the error codes but probably won't light the engine warning lamp.

Are the replacements from BMW or did you go elsewhere for them?

I got mine from BMW for HOW MUCH? !!!!

You might save a bit on eBay, Motorworks or Sherlocks.

The primary coils are quite short so you are unlikely to find an alternative to fit. But if you do please let us know. They are three wire plug top stick coils.

This is pretty much BMW pricing

This is the old type prone to failing
