Hi Any one had an issue with corrosion on the head light bracket and engine bars ? My GSA is booked in to vines tomorrow for a warranty check and hopefully replacement !

What sort of use has it had? Milage? ACF50? washed after a ride in the salt? They do corrode if not looked after but the engine bars are well known for it as they are painted steel, water based paint.let us know how it goes:thumb2

Yes I've had exactly this but figured it was due to me putting 17k on her in 12 months, riding everyday over the winter and keeping her outdoors with just scottoiler spray as protection.

Yes - the engine bars!

Rust around the inner barrel where it connects to the block at the bottom and the same where the two halves join above the cylinder head. It's happened on both sides. Crap!:forry

Just about to book in for 6,000 mile service and will be looking for replacements. I know this was a problem a few years ago on earlier bikes - maybe it is just one supplier to BMW with the problem?

My bike March 08, garaged almost entirely since buying and no mid winter excursions.:augie

Mine has corrosion around the frame where the pillion footpegs are. Just seems like the paint on these GSA's is a bit naff.
Still, I do ride it 6 days a week, all year round, so I was expecting some corrosion because of the amount of crap the councils put on the road (just not on the frame, more like the bolts).

Ref all of the above comments and descriptions, mine are the same on an 08 gsa..

a line of something growing across the leading face of all bars and rust starting where they bolt to the frame.

always ridden regardless of weather, always washed down after each ride and always generously coated in ACF.

had a warranty check about a week ago and they told me BMW won't do anything about it as it's classed as wear and tear.

Just to add to the list of 'marks' I have some paint peeling around the rear hub/shaft ring thingy and the token engine case corrosion. that said, it is booked in for an engine cover replacement 14th april.

have to say I'm not one of those people who needs their bike to be pristine, but I was disappointed about the response regarding wear and tear..

Steve

It's the amount of magnesium in the alloy
Bubbles the paint on hubs and Headlamp mounts made out of pure pish.

Update on corrosion

Bike whent back to Vines, they replaced the headlamp bracket but just cleaned up the engine bars . The bike was the workshop formans bike and was supposed to be cleaned every day and acf50ed had 6500k on it . I agree with the other posts dont expect it to last forever but dissapointing when you spend 10k+ and have a rusty bike in 5 months ! Plus the finger prints left over the screen and the poor attempt at re zip tieing my zumo wire were also a little careless

Hello Sir
Sorry to hear you are not satisfied with the quailty of work from the Vines workshop, please call me and i will book the bike in for a full valet and sort out the zumo cables for you.
Many thanks

Eengine bars and pannier racks are corroding slightly at the joints, but headlamp mount is fine. However, I'm not bothered as they're going to the powder coaters in a few months.
