I think I might know what the answer is to this, but here goes.

GSA 1200 (Jan 08, 4200 miles only); every 4 - 5 times on starting the starter motor "hesitates" for just a fraction of a second as if there's not enough power in the battery ...... then it gets over it and starts. You know the feeling. Bit unnerving at times. Getting the dreaded click-click-click >30 miles from home isn't my idea of a fun Sunday.

Does this at a petrol station yesterday after having stopped 30 miles into a run.

Battery should be fine at 15 months old, shouldn't it ?

They do sound slow when starting not like a KTM but might be worth charging the battery on an optimate before gannin down to yer dealer:nenau

haha "battery should be fine after 15 months" oh how we laughed...

No mate... You need a new Battery. BMW OE ones last 1 winter (makes it 21 months if you ve bought the bike in a March or 12- 15 months if you bought in an autumn) as simple as this. OPther batteries, namely Odyssey ones last up to 2-3 winters apparantly. Mine is on an high AmpereHr Odyssey since the summer of 2007 and I doubt it will make it to the end of the year. I bulk charge every couiple of weeks in the winter, hbut this (or Optichargers) do not really help lifespan.

£40 new battery every year, 10mins to swap, should be mandatory service item annually...

Appaling really as my old Yamaha Fazer 6 was on its OE battery for 4 years...
But twins eat betteries for breaky.. All KTMites Duceshite, even Honda SP2s...

My GSXR went through 2 in 3 years

Swings and roundabouts. My GSXR went through 2 in 3 years, so I was fully expecting to do the same with my GSA, but so far its held out. Not sure if the Adventure charges better though?

The GSXR was all about weight saving. The battery was tiny, so no surprise it went. Saying that I don't do them any favours, as I don't charge the bike and my commute is only 8 miles.

Oh and on the hesitation thing. Mine often does that. Seems to hiccough and the screen goes blank. Keep thinking the battery is on the way out, then next day its all hunky dory.

Mine does that on occassion (06 GSA 17000 miles) still in the original battery :thumb

my mate rides an ST and having the same problem. Fitted new battery, bought new optimate as his original was a bit suspect. Checked all connections still the same. Borrowed my starter relay sill no joy. Has now ordered a new starter motor {£200+}. Is this another BMW weakness? :nenau
