still a bit confused as to the above spec which is an OE (optional Extra in BMW lingo)
There are 2 version
1. Adaptive Vehicle height control
2. Adaptive vehicle height control comfort.

I have the second option but couldn't really see what the difference is although research seems to indicate the second one states that the ''extra on comfort'' is a lowered bike by a further 20cm. So if I am right both options do the same but the comfort is a lowered bike by 20cm
Is that right?

That’s right - although it’s mm not cm 👍

Comfort is a permanent 20mm lower suspension. Both will raise then lower 30mm as you speed up then slow down.

I have adaptive height control and it’s great.

My understanding is the comfort part, refers to the height & density of the seat foam only

High Norm Low for height eg the norm is at 50mm thickness, the high is 80mm and the low is 20 mm so +-30mm

soft firm hard for the density of the foam

This may help

Can see where your misunderstanding comes from but no, comfort does also apply to the chassis options as well as the seat options. Done a bit more digging and the following papragraphs were in a press pack document:

"With adaptive vehicle height control, the new R 1300 GS Adventure offers fully automatic adjustment of the vehicle height depending on the operating condition, thereby ensuring the greatest possible comfort without having to compromise on riding dynamics and banking freedom. The seat height of 870/890 mm, which is already adjustable in two stages as standard, is reduced by 30 mm each to 840/860 mm when stationary and when travelling slowly"

" For smaller riders or for particularly good accessibility and even easier handling, the new R 1300 GS Adventure can also be fitted with the optional vehicle height control comfort. It has all the features and functions of the vehicle height control, but with the addition of lowering the vehicle by 20 mm. This reduces the seat height to 850 mm when travelling and to 820 mm when stationary."

You've given a good explainer of how the different seat foam thicknesses work and that finally makes it a bit clearer in my mind how all the different ( static/moving) seat heights quoted are worked out. Been a bit of a learning curve!

I also came across this when I was researching the bike. It shows just how many options there are available.

So really the extra “comfort” refers to the fact that actually the bike is lowered from factory by 20mm and then the normal height adjust package on top. Interesting.
It
Would have been better if the extra 20mm could have been an additional setting rather an textual complete non adjustable factory lowering
The paragraph above is excellent as in the configuration it’s not really that clear

Thanks (y) I'd seen that chart a while ago but stupidly forgot to save it. It does take a little bit of studying to wrap your head around all the options!
