Righty O - despite managing fine so far with a cargo net and bungees I have decided I need a top box for the GSA.

Criteria
1. must be aluminium
2. must take a Tour X
3. er, thats it

Despite comments about the hinges I am tempted towards a standard BWM Adventure top box but am I right in thinking that the wise word is to get a pannier instead cos its bigger?

Does anyone know the price for the fittings plus respective boxes?

Should I consider H&B or something else instead?

Finally I may have a chance of some H&B panniers in a few months. Will these fit with a BMW box?

Thanks in advance

Oi man of similar name

I've got the Touracech box - costs about £250 with the separate mounting plate, the box comes undrilled so you have to drill the mounting holes out yourself.

Its very well made but looks a bit ... er ... functional.

There's a bigger box available which looks even more horrible.

BMW ADV top box will take a Tour-X.

If you want Ali, I think that leaves;

Touratech
BMW
Hepco & Becker
Jesse

Don't know if the others will take a Tour-X

crash helmet NO. sandwiches and flask- just about.
but good size for everyday use. and very strong.

Despite the adverse comments on this site, I still think these look the best.

Hi Repo

Have a look at metalmule.com which is a UK firm near Brighton who do aluminium boxes and racks to suit - good alternative to TT etc. - said to be stronger ie. design and use of thicker aluminium and construction is rivet rather than weld - easier to repair in the middle of nowhere. They have a unique lock/quick fit mechanism that is really trick.
Now the pitch - I have a new/unused 32L Top Box from Metal Mule. It is anodised - important if you don't want the contents turning black - and has rubber feet. MM retail this box at £209.00 and then you need a bike specific rack (£80) that I do not have.
I was going to put it on this board or ebay it but if you're interested post a contact number or e-mail/pm me and make me an offer I definitely can'y refuse !!!:D

Whatever you choose good luck.:beerjug:

I'm interested but cant PM you cos you arent a subscriber.

Either PM me if you can or e mail me nick dot reed at thehelix dot dcu dot ie.

Or do the right thing and pay Paul your tenner to become a sponsor then you can PM away

Anyway, get in touch - im going to see what info I can find on metal mule..

I'm well chuffed with my BMW ali topbox (and panniers). Can't see anything wrong with the build quality of the boxes so far and they passed the Scottish highland water test without a leak, however, the pannier frames are prone to bending when the bikes dropped (don't ask me how I know).

I saw the Metal mule boxes at the BMF and wasn't overly impressed with the build quality.

I like the look of that for a top box...How big? How much ? Where from?

I've got a givi 52Lt at present, but would like to swap to an Ali on to go with the TT paniers, I did want the large TT top box til I fell out with Plumby over price/discount. Perhaps the H&B could be the answer.:beerjug:
