GSA Crashbar damage, what to do?

Hi,

Managed a moment on total numptiness with my new GSA 90edition whilst in France at the weekend. Parked it on a camber with sidestand thinking it had enough lean....... it didn't and the bike tipped over with a sickening crunch. To be fair, the damage was MUCH less than I expected, limited to a gouge on the plastic corner cap on the pannier, but also road rash to the upper and lower crashbars.

I know I'm being anal as it is an Adventure bike after all, but it's my pride and joy and cost me everyting I had. New bars are an eyewatering price so I was wonering if I could get the damaged ones blasted back to the original finish? They are not dented or bent, just light scuffing which draws my eye whenver I look at the bike. Sand blasting, shot peeing ........ any ideas from you guy's except MTFU and live with it!

I had mine powder coated in black and jolly nice they look as well

Whip them off and round to your local powder coater and bob's yor uncle.

Just remove them. All they ever do is get damaged. I can't see the point of them at all.

Not while I have my strength Johnny. Each to their own and all that, but for me the last of the aircooled is the ultimate GS Boxer. Did 1500 miles at the weekend and I wouldn't have been on any other bike, just pissed off with myself for being a numpty!

Mine came pre-scratched by the previous owner, I think the dealer added a few quid for the extra 'cred' factor.

Relax and ride the thing, you'll only cry when it goes over again.

You are absolutely right of course, I plan to keep this bike for ever and I'm sure it will pick up a few more knocks, but it only had 800 miles on and was in pristine nick when I dumped it so just wondering if there was a chep and easy way to put it right. I certainly wont be spunking £486 on a new upper and RHS lower crashbar.

I know that and always do except this time as I would have been dismounting into the road with traffic. I don't know what posessed me

Mental note to self - don't dismount on the off side. I don't think I'm flexible enough to do that anyway

When my last bike was a few months old, it rolled off the sidestand, so I feel your pain. Get some fine sandpaper, and sand the scratches out. You couldn't even see the scratches after I'd sanded the bars.

T Cut and crash bar bags from Isaacunt of this parish. Sorted. Plastic corners on panniers worth weight in gold. GS knee sliders!

Mine keeps lying down mainly due to parking up on soft grass off roads stuff . Eventually I saw some cheap pound shop cable protect curly plastic strip. I just curled it around crash bars and lo and behold if bike takes a wobbler it just scuffs the plastic. No good for a proper downer but ok for just a fall over. Maybe I'm not over protective but I feel if I was to cotton wool it, it would drive me bonkers looking for scratches. Life is too short for that my friends

I feel your pain after riding sports bikes for years hearing that noise you just want to throw up.
But!since riding a bm it's just one of those things. mines been over loads
Defo worth 400quid more than I paid for it now
