GSA Crashbar damage, what to do?

I'm concerned that my crash bar protectors may become damaged when my bike falls over - does anyone have a source for crash bar protector protectors?

Four large coil springs should do the trick stolzy this would also enable said bike to self right. Fixing could be a problem though.

Marki, well of course, I used to work for a German company so I know how thoroughly BM would design this. I know my company only designed fish processing machines but the thought processes would be as BMW. You do agree!

Opposite side?

There's your problem

Always get off the sidestand side

ALWAYS

When I am worried my bike might be too vertical I make a point of getting off to the right as I want to make sure I am pushing the bike towards the stand as I get off, and also I want to be on the side it wall fall too if I've misjudged and it starts to tip when the suspension unloads.

Get on side stand side by standing left foot on the foot peg - like you would a horse. Swing leg over and as you drop down the bike is easy to pull upright. Get on the other side and it likely** to tip over before you get chance to get both legs down.

** If you have a stand extender e.g. like a hockey puck.

The tank side bars on the GSA def do a good job. Gravel rash on that HOOOGE tank would be eye-wateringly expensive.

The cylinder ends of the GSA crash bars are IMO worse than useless. I dropped mine on mud at about 15mph and the bar bent right back to the cylinder. Thankfully the engine is fine but 20mph would have ruffed up the cylinder head never mind the rocker cover.

The bike needs no engine crash bars just some heavy duty head protectors ideally with a replacable crash plate. Then find a way to fit the top half crash bars because that tank does need help in a falling over.

Got it sorted as well as I could, a bit of light emery cloth actually did quite a good job, but didn't want to sand too deep.

So Rugged Roads protector plates and a couple of leather/carbon Mountain Bike stick on chain stay protectors on the lower bars.

Yes I know I'm being a girl and need to MTFU!

If only you'd done that before your hols:aidan

Baggywrinkles , nautical term, old fashioned but could give some street cred for some of the immaculate bikes I saw in Oban no scratches but covered in stickers. Maybe the stickers covered the scratches so maybe I'm being too hard on these immaculate pilots. Oh I am cheeky. Sorry

I do see your points and I realise I'm still suffering from shiny new toy syndrome. No doubt in a few months time I'll be showing off the scuffs with deep pride.

Look out for some frame protectors in the FS&W section............... but not yet............. not yet.

Damn those brake blocks look a lot shinier than mine, nice bike do you have tinted winglets as well as a tinted screen?

Nothing wrong with new toy protection, had my 90th 3 months and still bothered about getting the first sign's of action on it

Just got the clear BMW clear winglets, BMW don't do tinted ones but I think Nippy normans do, unsure if the screw "centres" are the same. i'm still not sure about the tinted screen, doesn't add anything and I think I'll swap it for the clear one sometime, but it was a freebie with the bike. Given my recent track record, I should have a spare for my next moment of numptiness!

wouldn't swap the bike for anything else, remus headers, Akra can, Hilltop remap........ its a keeper!

Nice, I think the tinted looks much better than the clear but that's only so you can't see the shite on the inside of the screen :-)

The BMW winglets crack at the mounting holes. These are half the price and come in various tints. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-R1200...pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item3a94fc21e3

My crash bars are gloss black powder coated They look fab but any OMG crunch moment won't look so pretty. I might try some of those bicycle protector strips. Even better junk the lower bars and fit tougher head covers that will actually provide protection in a real crash without causing more harm than they save.

Bendy, or anyone else who is as anal as me for that matter, I bought 4 of the leather/carbon chain protectors expecting to put them on the upper bars, but instead went the frame guards route so have 2 spare.

Will post them for £10 the pair if anyone is interested.
