Hi All

The male part of the quick connector has broken off in the female part on my high pressure feed line. I'm off on tour next month so am going to bite the bullet and upgrade to metal connectors for peace of mind.

Question: is it worth doing the connectors on the return line at the same time? Or does this issue generally only affect the high pressure line?

Thanking you in advance

The plastic male connectors have a wall thickness of 0.5 mm where the latch engages, and this is usually the failure point, and of course this leaves the broken piece stuck in the female connector preventing the built in shut off valve from closing.
The plastic female connectors are robust and should not need replacing. I kept mine and only upgraded to metal male connectors.
As you have to replace one male, I would advise replacing both for peace of mind.

Appreciate the input, and yes that is exactly where mine failed.

I will have a go at extracting the broken part from the female connector, and with luck I can get away with replacing only the male connectors.

If you don’t mind me asking, where did you source the male connectors?

Many thanks

But there may be other cheaper alternatives.
Just across the river from me, here in Preston.

I’ve just had the same issue and picked up two sets of JMP fittings that are very robust, but they only seal on the female side. I’ve therefore fitted both of them onto the lines from the fuel tank. Getting everything apart after all these years was impossible so I replaced all 4 sections of fuel line with new reinforced stuff - £3.90 from Halfords.

As an aside the small O rings on the connectors are becoming more prone to failue due to modern fuels , KTM use similar connectors and the O rings are viewed as a yearly service item.
I bought a pack of the uprated O rings and change them each year , a sure sign of impending failure is that the connectors stick and do not release and then once parted are difficult to re attach.
Potential for the male section of the plastic connectors with the O ring to then snap

Got a link for the uprated O rings please

I sprayed mine with PTFE lube each time I took them apart, which helped them go together and come apart with much less stress. I bought them from Hein Geicke and, in all the years I had them fitted, I never had to replace an o-ring… My problem was cack-handedness and I forgot to disconnect them when moving the tank back last week :blast

I’ve now replaced the hoses and 20yr old black plastic ones with new hose and metal JMP fittings

I looked at these on ebay then I looked at aliexpress and bought a pair for less than the cost of one of the ebay ones. They seem to be identical, been on for nearly 3 months done several hundred miles and have disconnected them a couple of times, so far so good
