Hi all

Does anybody know if this modification is possible and straightforward? Take one out y put the other using same bolts and mounting points?. Also, would have electric problems considering that the GSA generator is 55A and GS 40A.

Thanks

Charging will match as Generator carries integrated regulator. Incidentally 55A Generator provides its increased output power at higher level of revs, hence it requires a smaller pulley which has to be ordered separately.
Regarding undoubted benefit parts are very expensive on the other hand.

The ADV and standard GS alternators are both the same output.

Only the early non ABS versions were the lower output, and again both the ADV and standard GS have the lower outputs if no ABS.

Officially and for the first time 720 W Generator was available (at least on the continent) with the announcement of R1200GS ADV in autumn 2005. Previous R1200 GS came with the 600 W version in fact regardless ABS Option.
And yes mine (April 04) is equipped with the "small" one too in spite of ABS onboard. :(

Sorry, i was posting about 1150 models. I notice the poster hasn't said which model he refers to. :nenau

Red 1200 according to his profile. A quick look on RealOEM shows that the GSA has a different V-belt and top pulley (with free wheel).

Another thing to consider is the different connectors fitted to the standard Nippon Denso and the ADV's Bosch, which will mean adapting the loom.

You can get an uprated alternator from the states - linky- but you'd really have to want one a that price.

Someone else who tried.

You can get caught out by assuming -
I stopped looking at profiles , too many change their bikes and don't update them - Plus if they can't be bothered to post what model of bike it is, i'm not going to be bothered trying to find out.:D

Charging for R100GS

Hello , yes the r100 is undercharged but a visit to motorrad elektrik and the "Omega" fixed it. Could be pricey but then you can stack the lights and run your heated clothing and never worry about running out of tricity bugs in the middle of County Donegal:Motomartin. Besides, you're on the positive end of the exchange rate. Good luck!
