I don't need convincing of that, which is a. why I didn't alter my beam pattern last month when I was in France and b. why I said 'decorative' re the tape precaution I suggested.

It's Monsieur Le Plod, already keen to issue you with a fine for not having modified your beam as required by his rules, that you'd be having the argument with. Whether you had a garage door with you or not, I suspect he might reluctantly accept your case only if your manual backed you up. It doesn't. Instead, it states quite categorically that your asymmetric headlight will tend to blind oncoming traffic.

Other than that I think it's reflective tape on helmet and hi viz vest.

Also it is now law to wear gloves when riding. Leads to some silly sights down on the riviera where you see people whizzing around on scooters in shorts and flip-flops - but wearing gloves.

DRLs are legally required in France as in the rest of Europe

The GS has the same LED horseshoe here as anywhere else

If you have a yellow vest in your top box I'm sure plod will accept it

Interestingly in a car you are supposed to have a vest for each occupant whereas on a bike it is only mandatory for the rider
(on my GS I have 2 in the top box, on my Triumph I don't carry one)

I don't have reflective stickers on my lid

You don't need a breathalyzer test

I keep mine in the back pocket of my Rallye jacket so I can whip it out with a flourish if required.

Like some have implied if Le Plod has the hump he will nick you for something. I got stopped in. Brittany in my car 2 years ago. I had a cold chill run down my spine when the gendarme asked me for my papers as it was that exact moment I realized I didn't have anything with me apart from my licence which is always in my wallet.
I gave him my licence and braced myself whilst he walked around the car. He handed my licence back and wished me a good day

If they want you they will find something and if they don't, they won't

Last time I went to France I had read that rule but noticed like you say everyone filters. I joined in and filtered whenever I could. At one point I was in Paris in a very congested tunnel so filtering in order to get out of there quickly;I ended up filtering past a police car who moved over to let me past. I don't think they are too bothered unless you are being particularly stupid.

I'm near Monaco at the moment, just spoken to BMW on the phone and he said headlamp can be easily adjusted via the white lever behind the light - looks like you unscrew and lift - apparently in the manual, which clearly I haven't read

I'm not intending to ride at night so have left as-is but assume this is it....

That's just to adjust for a heavy load, according to the manual.

Clearly the dealer hasn't read the manual either. That adjusts throw, not left/right.
