Well my new 1200 GSA is here and I love it more than the wife:rose

I have decided that I could do with some inner bags for the BMW alu panniers.
I know BMW do them and I have found some made by Mane Event which look pretty good.

Anyone any experience of either, worth spending the money on BMW ones, or any other manufacture's. Recommendations please.

Thanks

Chris

Used both Mane and BMW bags, the BMW ones double as top bags to increase carrying capacity by mounting on top of the panniers, but the downside is they are not as "packing friendly" as they have a roll top like a dry bag.

Personally I think the Manes are the better option unless you intend top mounting.

Don't forget, you'll always re-sell the BMW bags for good money when you're finished, so their actual 'cost' isn't that bad.

I bought some BMW bags a couple of weeks, quality looks good, bit of a swine to pack though, they don't naturally follow the shape of the panniers, still very happy with them though.....looks a bit more classy not taking a bin liner into a hotel.....:o

Thanks guys, I only intend to use them inside the boxes, not on top. Are the mane event ones shaped for the exhaust cut out? There are no pics on the web site.

Garfield I would like to say that when camping under the stars nobody can see the the bin bags, but I am affraid I am as vain as you and do care what the hotel staff and guests think!

How much are BMW ones? Just the two sides. Not even checked.

I paid about £125....

Also worth pointing out that GSA panniers aren't necessarily waterproof. BMW inner bags are.

Used my BMW inner bags more extensively than most I warrant, as in the two years I've had them at least two have been used every week.

I use the GSA to do a weekly commute, so my weeks clothing goes into the bags and my laptop in top box. Numerous jaunts (upto 3 weeks at a time) two-up with every bag filled for holidays as well and I can't fault the bags.

Must admit, I pack squashily for the exhaust side bag, but its amazing how much can be crammed in. The bags are waterproof when top mounted, proved that twice coming back thru France by loading up the panniers with wine and evicting the inner bags to top of panniers ;-)

My other half has taking to grabbing any of the bags that is unused and packing a couple of nights things in and slinging it in the car as well, in fact they've become my standard bag if I'm not flying somewhere too.

They've been one of the unsung heroes of the bike ... yes, they were expensive on day one, but now I come to look back on it, they've been great and look to last another few years yet ... not a mark or fault on any of the three of them yet.

I've trapped them all day in the lid on a few occasions, but they've shrugged it off and I must admit the roll-top is great for waterproofing but I rarely bother when they are inside.
Filling them is a little awkward as the entry is slit, not box shaped, but you can cram a huge amount of gear in there ...

Resounding 9/10 from me ...

Both pannier and inner bags (all three) have been perfectly waterproof on my GSA thru two years very heavy use in some atrocious weather ...

Spot on! :thumb2

Has anybody tried these? http://www.chainspeed.co.uk/kjd.htm.

I'm also looking for GSA pannier bags and cant decide, the KJD look good, lifetime guarantee and a good price

Tony

I think those have been mentioned over on Adventure Rider, remember looking at their website once but at that time they did not have an outlet in the UK.

I use Mane Event inner bags and if more hairdryers needed by the wife than I use Hein Gerike roll bags strapped to the top of the panniers at £15 each.

Works

:)
