Hi, I just got a 2009 GSA two weeks ago. Its my first gs after being on a cbr 1100 for a few years.

In the couple of weeks ive had it, I have had several occasions when I have been cruising along the motorway and i get a sudden and brief drop in throttle, like an air bubble has hit the fuel and she is fuel starved for a split second but then kicks back on again. It only happens for a split second but its a bit dangerous !

Has anyone had this happen before and maybe suggest what it could be ? I thought dirty fuel but its happened 3 to 4 times now ?

Thanks for any help !

Hi there, a lot of potential culprits but I had something similar on my 1150 and it was a corroded coil stick on one of the spark plugs.

Remove all of them and check for splits in the casings etc. if you find one that could be the cause.

Does your bike have a warranty? If so get it back to the dealers :)

Mine was running intermittently on one cylinder (L missfires at low revs) and it stalled suddenly last month throwing me off at a road junction. The coils all checked out fine and spark plugs were clean with all the same colour. It was worse in the wet but I found no sign of water ingress to the coils or the trigger wire connectors.

I also removed the low speed throttle body solenoids intending to swap them over, but they are handed (thanks again BMW for your modular designs :p).

On the left solenoid, I used an HT cable crimp pliers to turn the solenoid spindle without touching the bevelled seat area. It was worth the risk as I was looking at swapping out the solenoid anyway.

I have since done about 250 miles. There has been no missfire and the usual hunting at motorway speeds has improved though not gone away.

Have I free'd off the solenoid? Is that possible? Have I invented new snake oil? Maybe its just coincidence. Perhaps the injection experts will know.

Thanks guys. Ill replsce the sparks and see what hapens. Can you recomend what are the best type of spark plug to use and which plug is the right one ?

Thanks

Ok, the plot thickens. Took her for a good spin today and found the following issues.

1. When I filled it up with petrol, the gauge said I was empty.

2. On motorway driving if I get up a steady speed about 70 mph she begins to lose power like she is fuel starved, the more power I give the more she struggles to maintain power.

3, low power back roads she is fine.

Not sure what all dat adds up to ???

Any thoughts ??:aidan

The depth of one solenoid from gasket to plunger looked longer. I'll look again tomorrow.

They aren't solenoids, they are stepper motors. Instead of comparing lengths, get hold of a GS911 tool and reset them electronically. Don't go pulling them about with pliers etc, or you'll completely bugger them.

Likewise, the OP could do with having fault codes read and checking status of digital and analog input values.

If you are anywhere near Fareham you are welcome to pop into my place and I will hook up my GS911 and have a look.
