Hello all

Replaced my GS LC screen with a GSA LC screen.

The GSA screen is much larger at the top.

From my limited testing, the new screen has much less wind blast and no buffeting - up to 100 km/hr, anyway. A big improvement over the stock GSLC screen.

I am 5 10, average build, and my helmet is a Shoei QWEST.

Thanks for the photos,
The adventure screen has been a popular choice in the past, It's something I am considering,
Is there much shake compared to standard as extra brackets are being used by some adventure riders,

The BMW GSA screen for the LC will set you back close to 200 of Her Majesty's English Pounds! That is just for the screen only and you would have to take the fittings off your old screen. If you want to have separate fittings so you can interchange screens easily then it's another £70 for the privilege!

The GSA screen will give you a bit more protection without much difference in the amount of shake and wobble, so if you could live with it on the standard GS screen you'll be fine with a GSA one.

If you want even more protection (say over the winter for example) then something like the Puig screen that Sven has fitted (£85) will do this but the wobble factor goes up and it's best to send some money to Mark Hooton in exchange for one of his lovely brace kits.

Hope this helps :thumb

I too found the original screen a bit of a compromise so considered the adventure screen until I caught a couple of 'here's me out on my adv. ' clips on YouTube and noticed how much they appeared to move at the top which I knew would irritate ( not a scientific elimination I know!)
So looked at the Puig (acrylic) but having seen the American test of acrylic versus polycarbonate, using, not a laboratory but typically a pump action! I thought I don't want anything that won't keep out gunfire.
So decided on the touratech screen.
(£204) - used it on a ride out to Istanbul and back in horrendous and fantastic weather with (for me 5'11") complete satisfaction and rock steady too so no annoying waggle.

I thought the standard screen on my 1200wc was a work of art,no buffeting at any speed and good poor weather protection.

Pillion didn't agree though.

The Puig screen is good quality and very effective, but does wobble alarmingly except on its lowest position. It is a bargain at £85 though :thumby:

Update:

Did 250 km today around the greater Sydney area.

I'm going back to the stock screen. The GSA screen creates an annoying high frequency resonance on my helmet over about 95 km/hr when the screen is fully up....

The stocker is a good compromise...

Back to the drawing board...

If ONLY Madstad made a screen for the GS. The Madstad on my Explorer was fan-bloody-tastic...

Hmm, not trying to over sell touratech (they do that on their own)
I just completed 5000 miles , wearing an Arai open face and with the
TT screen set just below, fully up (wound down is perfect for slow 30deg
As it gives a nice face full of cooling air)
I spent all but the rainy days with the visor up - and all speeds (80mph)
In complete comfort.

2400 miles around Europe this August with an MRA Screen fitted, no problems with buffeting using my X-Lite 551, screen lowered to about half way with the MRA lip at max. It's all about airflowing, not about wedging the screen up to "Barn door" position. I've done about 8k all together with the MRA screen and it's setup perfectly for me (6ft tall btw)

Bit more info from personal experience which folk may (or may not!) find useful:

I'm 6 foot and the standard screen works well over the summer when I like to feel the wind in my visor. I'm usually seeking out the twisty stuff wherever possible so I have the screen right down and that gives me a good blast of fresh air, with the downside being I also get a lot of wind noise, but I wear good ear plugs so I can live with that.
On the motorway (rare for me) the standard screen wound right up gives me quite a bit of buffeting and wind noise.

The GSA screen gives a little bit more protection all round but there's not a lot in it.

The Puig is like riding a different bike, even wound right down as it gives so much protection I get virtually no wind noise and am almost sitting in a pocket of still air. It flaps about a bit, but that is easily sorted with a Cymarc brace (lovely bit of kit). I just did a test at motorway speeds (I was donig 70 officer honestly) and rang the wife (autocom with Bluetooth thru Nav V) and she said my speech was crystal clear, unlike the last time I tried with the standard screen on. The only other thing to watch for is that I had to swap the dark tint back to a light tint as it is so tall I needed to be able to see through it!

So for me, standard screen = wind in me face. Puig = sat in a bubble

I'll use the Puig over the winter coz I'm a big girl and don't like getting cold :D
