I have the Wunderlich oil cooler grill fitted to my GSA. (The Wunderlich grill is the plastic 'latice' type). I had it fitted by my local Motorrad dealer. I stopped off at another Motorrad dealer for a chat and whilst there one of their sales staff was very interested in the grill, stating it was not the grill that should be fitted, as it could affect the air flow to the oil cooler. He then directed me to another GSA with a metal grill fitted and explained that this was the only one recommended. I note in the Touratech catalogue their metal grill is similar to the one I was shown and it clearly states: "The radiator cover can cause the engine to overheat under extreme conditions with high outside temperatures and an extreme engine load." I appreciate that to some degree any grill is going to have an effect on air flow. However, I purchased my grill from that well known supplier of all things BMW and it came with no warning about airflow. The dealer that fitted it said nothing either.
I don't consider riding up the Grossglockner two up with luggage in 35 degrees as under extreme conditions or load. So should I keep it on or remove it?
Thanks.
