GSA panniers on a GS

I'm looking at buying a 1200 and am having the same GS vs GSA debate with myself that I've read about on some of the other threads. With regards to panniers I've read that the GSA alu ones will fit the GS, but has anyone here done that and if so got any pictures. Do they fit the same as on the GSA and have the same overall width?

Hi, If you are taking about the pre 08 bikes, the rear ends are the same and you will have no problem.

but the panniers will corrode as they are not anodised and mark very easily, whichever bike u go for GS/GSA have look on this site as there are few guys who make panniers that are far better and much cheaper!

i have a 08 gsa and have fitted gs brackets and standard panniers and top box so gsa ali boxes must fit but the price of side mounts plus back rack then adapter plate for top box plus 3x ali boxes are not cheap and aftermarket boxes are better and cheaper

+1 on both of these... the BM GSA panniers look great new, but if you read some of the threads about them they corrode badly in this kind of weather, it'll only take a few miles for them to start looking like sh1t.

if you don't care about looks, then save you're money and buy a second hand set. There will be plenty around.

Is the corrosion a problem only on the GSA panniers or usual for all alu panniers? Does anyone have experience of Zega cases with regards to corrosion?

you'll get the problem on all untreated (bare) aluminium. You'll have to have a read about, but the BM ones used to be made by TT - I think the TT ones are also bare ali, but I dont know for sure... have a search for GSA Panniers and Corrosion, there's lots and lots of postings and some good answers

I prefer the Varios on my GSA and I can share them with my GS but I modified a GSA rack to keep the stainless steel look.
