I need advice please and I have broad shoulders!

I am enjoying my return to riding and always try to learn from all the tips I read onthis site. As well as being an IAM member and doing training with ROSPA instructors I worK hard at raising the skill level from the tips I pick up.

I have now done about 8K on the GSA in the past 12 months and did about 1K on my little street triple before it was nicked!

I really like the Street T and I am guessing that it is the short wheelbase, the small front wheel (+the engine) that is giving the grin factor.

Now I will probably keep the GSA but I dont want to replace the ST as my second bike as I always felt it was a bit small fo my size ,due to being a fat tosser!

What I do want is to consider another bike that maybe like a bigger naked bike but still with the nimble grin factor of the ST?

At NEC at the weekend I was pointed toward the R1200R!??

I ask these questions because I realise there is a big amount of knowledge n the forum so please help, take the pee or whatever.

Thanks :thumb2

Ducati Hypermotard 1100?????? Corrrrrr, you'd have some fun on that ..... :thumb

The R-series roadsters are great bikes, but I think you'd find it a similar feel to the GS: steady, torquey, comfy, easy to ride and not especially adrenalising (which is exactly why we can ride our GS's all day without feeling exhausted)

The joy of running a second bike is to have a contrast - each bike helps you appreciate the qualities of the other, and experience different facets of biking

The nimblest roadsters like STs and Hornets are dinky, revvy, low-inertia little jewels. Then there are the big, bloaty retro puddings like the Yam XJR and Honda CB1300, but if you already like the GS then my suggestion would be to investigate a KTM SMT, KTM Super Duke or Aprilia Tuono: European character, light enough to be nimble, physically large enough for a big lad to fit, and with lairy motors which are a world away from the sensible GS boxer which we know & love.

A 1050 Tiger would be a good stablemate and contrast, especially if you like the Triumph 3 cylinder engine:aidan

If you liked the Street Triple you will love the 1050 Speed Triple lots of used ones around for sub £5000 or of you want proper mental spend a little more and go KTM 950/990 Supermoto :D

how about one of the new triumph 800 trailies - St fun with a more comfortable seating position

Ideal second bike would be a 990 Superduke :D

Having riden a mate's Street Triple R the SD is a lot more roomy and the LC8 motor is gem ;)

I have strange urge to find something totally mental like that XR600 that was of the forum recently. I wouldn't get a Beemer as when I have had another BM I always take the GS:augie

I've got an R1150R alongside my GS. Its a much steadier bike to ride that the GS - which is why its my winter hack.

As above, the superduke has got to be top of the list.

My choice would be easy.
Either KTM 990 SM
Or Aprillia Tuono.
Both fantastic fun bikes. Simples.....:D

hmm tricky one. Get the impression Jap isnt your thing.

Ducati Monster 1100S (ohlins suspension), or the 696 maybe, but the 1100 is the one to have. Ridden both - Cracking bikes, very smooth, v twin power, great fun. I'm 6'2 and find them comfortable. Never ridden a hypermotard but understand the tank range is 70 miles, culture shock after your beemer.

The Tuono is a rattly beast in my experience, rider and pillion pegs are very high too.
