Why are the screen adjusters on the GSA designed in such a way that you can't use the top 'rungs', and so can't have the screen set to it's highest/most vertical? Is is a stress/strain issue? If you're not meant to use them why have them there in the first place? :nenau
(Awaits usual barrage of abuse ;))

Just carefully cut the top nib off they go all the way up then , sorted :thumb

Can't you just swap them over and turn them upside down so the 'nib' is on the bottom? I haven't looked properly so don't know if this is possible.
I just wondered what the reasoning is as it seems silly putting the 'rungs' there and then blocking you from using them :nenau

Not sure about turning them ,i know there angled so it may work ?? i just took the nibs off when i got the bike and it works fine :thumb2

Funny enough I was thinking the same thing when sorting the bike for next weeks trip away, stupid idea really.

A well never mind the screen where it is gives me loads more protection that I am ever used to comeing from a sports bike lol

I'm prettty sure you can't turn them upside down due to the angles involved - i tried this.

you can cut off the lugs. i did this and it made a significant difference to wind noise AND fuel consumption ( up around 10%)

I think the reason BMW put the lugs on is to prevent the highest position which puts extra strain on the front fixings particularly at sustained very high speeds. there doesn't seem to be any evidence on here of front fixings failings from people who did this and if you're worried metal repalcements are available from NN. these are meant to be fitted if a screen extender is used.

Incidentally i put my screen back down to the original highest position being prepared to live with a bit more noise whic h is fine with earplugs and wanting better fuel consumption.

You can't swop them JJH

I've done it. The problem is that you get a lot more buffeting and the windscreen chafes against the winglets on a GSA. Best to leave it the original high position and get a touratech deflector.

I'm contemplating the TT spoiler. I have the wunderlich one at the moment which helps a lot, but the TT one looks more substantial.
As to my original question, the reason for the question was why make something with 'rungs' that aren't to be used?
Is it a case of it being a 'shared' part with the GS and the GS can use the full range due to the smaller screen?

My nearside adjuster unscrews itself. I screw it good n tight , then it becomes loose again. I haven't yet figured why or what to do about it :nenau

I had the same problem, so i fitted the new type adjusters from the 2010 GSA. They are 'star' shaped, so you can do them up tighter.
Problem sorted.
