GSA SE - educate me

Over the years I've seen people treating the GSA SE with enormous reverence.

To me it looks like a GSA with a white paint option but I'm assuming there's more to it than that.

So, what makes an SE an SE?

Just the paint really
Run out model
Silver engine, heated grips, crash bars and Servo ABS were mandatory
Spot lights & luggage were optional
Cheaper than the fully specced silver or black ones in summer 2005
I was offered one me and turned it down, for my silver & factory non ABS bike which has still have

Wow, I am surprised that there's so little difference given the increased value that seems to come with the SE version. Thanks for the info.

Usual practice I think when model is end of line. Fancy paint and call it special or limited edition to help sell off the last ones. I have an F650GS SE which is just a yellow and black paint job, it was then superseded by the F700

Inflated prices are just ‘smoke & mirrors’
It’s not even a numbered Ltd Edition-with a commemorative plaque

Friend of mine had one. It looked very nice to be honest.

But, yes, it is mostly paint only.
I think people loved the 1150 so much that it became iconic as it was the last few units in production.


To be fair "only paint" special models then became the norm in motorrad.

Also the blue painted frames for special bikes only went out of the window ages ago.

When the 1200GS first came out my local dealer had 3 new 1150 GSA SE's in the showroom and was worried about selling them as an old model. Funny how they are now the most sort after. It is my favourite 1150 colour scheme.

The rarest GS was probably the 1999 Granada Dakar 1100GS.
Only 200 produced, of which 37 came to the U.K.

Yes I did, many years ago. Judge bought it off me. I think it was stolen from him, I seem to remember it was discovered near him after scrotes had ragged it around off road …… oh, forgot, I do have an 1150ADV SE, that’s only done 1060 miles
