Hi All - this thread has probably already been around before... but here goes:

Looking at eventually changing the shocks on the old 11/2003 R1150GS with ABS, and wouldn't mind a bit more ride height (as i'm 6'8"), similar to the GSA (yes, already have handlebar risers and dropped pegs...).

Looking through the BMW OEM parts catalogue, it seems for the front, only the shock assembly is different - same length stanchions, forks, etc... seems a bit odd to me? Has anyone done this conversion by just changing to a GSA shock assembly without changing anything else?

As for the rear, it seems the shock assembly plus the drive shaft are a different model number from GSA and GS... strut, etc. seem the same.

Any other modifications/changes required to increase the ride height on the GS?

Cheers,

B.

Shocks can be changed without issue. The adv drive shaft is slightly different but only really an issue if you are jumping it like a motocross bike. Lots of people running adv shock on standard bike. The only other issue is the centre stand and side stand.

DOH! Of course it is! :homer

Thanks Flipfly...

Not that I jump it a lot - but the odd bit of air is fun... as I'm intending on rebuilding the bike from the ground up in the next year or so, I will probably look for a 2nd hand GSA drive shaft. :D

Probably cheaper to just buy an adv. I've just missed a minter with 17k for 4 grand. By the time you weigh up shocks tank drive shaft etc you are into a grand or so.

not looking for an ADV tank... just looking for better ride height - and I would want to replace shocks anyway when I rebuild... and yes - rebuild is likely to cost a good chunk of money, but it's more about the fun of the rebuild for me... :)

and I get to buy another toy for use during the rebuild... what's not to like! :D
