GSA Tank range

I feel a challenge has been set! ;)

It would be more fun to see who could get the least range...

I recently had to make an 80 mile cross country ( A & B road) dash in the wet and the bike did 39MPG - I reckon that was a good effort and I made the meeting on time :-)

That was my point chap :thumb2

Will report back once I get my GSA back!

It's all subjective and depends on your riding style. I've had over 500 out of a tank and also had just over 200:augie

Your trip computer works out an estimated range based on how you are riding at the time. The hiccup may have been caused by you slowing down and using less fuel so your range increased slightly. They can tell you everything is fine and then suddenly drop like a stone as you get almost empty

They are all different with some being more accurate than others. Best thing you can do to check how accurate your range is, is to strap a gallon can on the bike and ride until it runs out and then you will know for sure. Mine is deadly accurate and when it says 1 mile to go.....it means it!

Utilise the trip computer with your odometer and you won't go far wrong.

Wot HE say's :agree

and it doesn't have to be boring - you can have a very entertaining ride using high gears, maintaining relatively high speeds using more planning and less of a 'squirt and brake' riding style.

Agreed - the real challenge is maintaining a high average speed over a long distance - forget fuel consumption on its own as that's too easy to affect.

So what you're saying is, if we had who could get the least range from a tank challange MAV would win because of his shyte ridding style?

:D

We need some rough rules.... To many miles sitting bolt upright, panniers on at 90mph on the motorway could invalidate your claim

I'll have a proper go when Mikeyboy has done with my bike. My original 200 miles on a tank was blasting down the motorway somewhere in Northern Spain. I looked at the MPG and at one point is said 31mpg so I didn't bother looking again:eek:

How about two tests ?
Onr for least acheived from a full tank.
And one for the most miles acheived from a necked tank.

You have to carry panniers and a the maximum weight allowed in each pannier.
Also you can carry a gallon of petrol for when you run out.
You can carry a pillon but must state that you have.

Perhaps Mav could setup a seperate post for posted results ?

I should be able to get the one with the least miles if I take the wife on the bike

How many miles can I expect to get out of a tank before refuleing my 1200 GSA ?

Yesterday I did 375 miles with 34 miles left in the tank and the fuel light started flashing at 51 miles.
The first 100 I was mostly riding at 70mph but the rest I rode at 60mph.
When I got down to 97 miles left in the tank the computer had a hicup and jumped back up to 104 miles left then after another 10 mins it dropped back to 88.
I was not sure just how far the bike would go before it ran out so stopped a fuelled up.
When I filled up it cost me a staggering £40 with 97 ron at a main service area.
But the range went to 506 miles predicted.
Go on give us a clue to how many litres you put in, putting in forty quids worth tells us fek all other than it cost forty quid.

Phil
( clue, once you know tank capacity, you know quantity put in (thats quantity you put in, not cost), you know distance covered - it's not rocket science to then work out how far you could go on the remaining fuel. :) )

I'll take a piccy of the pump once I have filled up an empty tank again and I wont use 97 ron next time.
