Other than walk out or dont go in the first place, or :mcgun! :)

Does anyone expect anythin new for the adventure on the 58plate or 09? Might help me to bargain on 08's. Richard

there's this thing that BMW dealers don't do discounts (sir) but they do, I got £500 off the last 2 R1200ADV's I bought, from different dealers too.

Just be polite but firm and they'll sort you rather than lose a sale.

Phone round and talk to dealers, i got over £500 off and cylinder guards for free less than a month ago on a r1200gs.

Lot depends on the dealer, Balderstons my local dealer would`nt knock a penny off the price of a new fully kitted 1200GS last November, so went down the road to Wollastons where I got exactly the same bike for £1200 less - and without any haggling - and the customer service has been spot on :thumb

When I bought mine back in 06, there was no movement on the price of the bike...
There was, however, much room for negotiation on the value of my part/ex, and on the 'extras' I was buying for the bike, so in my case the price of my R1200 was irrellevant.... cost to change is what was important to me...
HTH.
Dave.

Don't forget the forsale adds on here

Its only an off chance, but there are some rich (I hope) people on this site who buy new bikes, get bored and sell them at tiny miles. The week after I bought my 06 GSA with minimal kit (from a dealer) there was a fully kitted 08 sprayed up to look like the 06 (white ones look great) for less than I paid for mine... Gutted isn't the word!

This may have been a one off, as I've now stopped looking, as it only makes me feel like I was ripped off, but give it a go.

I will Toby, my test ride is with that Wollastons in Northampton. I hope I get the same customer service that Dave56 got. Have felt like the poor relative in there before, who had no means or intention of buying, I'll show em! Me turning up on an R reg ex army 250 probably didnt help. It only usually takes a funny look for me to go elsewhere but i'll put that look down to the bright lighting and the fact said person may have been new:) Wish me luck. Richard

If you show lots of interest and take a test ride of course you`ll get the hard sell:nenau That`s what the salesman`s paid to do:augie

If you are polite and good homoured you have much more chance of getting a discount. If you go in being a smart arse, I guarentee the salesman won`t budge an inch.

Same thing happened to me at a local dealer near Chester who is no more:augie
I went in on a Shitzuki Burger 650, the T**ts would not even talk to me,
They were the loosers as i had my wod with me. Nipped over to Manchester
and bought the bike on the spot. I for one am glad they are no more:D...
Oh! yes, you may get some thing off the bike but it will not be a lot, more like a deal on gear or Extras...

Turned out ok, shop was busy. So busy in fact that they didnt even notice i'd been gone 4 hours on the gsa:) instead of the 2 i'd booked. He said sorry he didnt have time to chat which was fine with me.
Smashing bike though, did just under 200 miles and felt fine compared to my mate on his bandit who joined me. He could only do short bursts of speed as was hanging on for dear life above 70, while the gs did it with ease.
I know many knock the ESA option but it was there so of course I had a fiddle and found it was actually very good. Sport, normal and soft if I remember rightly were the choices which you could change on the move. All in all felt good on the bike and more importantly.....safe! Oh and ABS was good too, sorry hardcore non supporters but it was!

Did you buy your bike new Mr Moderator? Any regrets? Car money on a bike hasnt earned me support from those I thought cared about me. :tears I see their point but you cant take it with you and I deserve a treat. R

Yeah us the little people will show them. Most of the salesmen dont even own bikes! Probably as they can ride any bike with tax on for free but thats beside the point:) Was it a gsa you bought then? and was it new?
North wales eh? Got a friend in Colwyn Bay. Keep saying i'll visit her, maybe the bike will be the kick up the arse I need. Must be nice there for riders. R

BMW are very good on test rides. I did about 5-6 rides before buying my current GS. Did it over 3 dealerships and talked about discounts with each one. I was after the outgoing 2007 model and ended up getting a very nice discount from SLM.

They didn't seem to complain when I turned up on my beat up Honda Dylan.........

The easy way to escape the salesman is to say you've got to test a KTM/Triumph etc. first.

Thats my plan, to have a few more test rides. It was chucking it down yesterday till we headed north???:) The bike I rode had 1st gear issues, took a real kick to get it in there and would jump out to nutral so I had to keep my eye on the screen. Didnt sound happy in traffic either. I'd like a few more go's on one two before signing. Probably pootle along to the bike show as well for a mooch as would have even more sleepless nights if I bought before. Do you use yours as much as you had intended? Im done with cars for now so will basically live on mine, hence the amount research I feel I must do. R

Did it have problems in first when it was cold? I find with mine (54 12GS) if it doesn`t go in release the clutch then clutch in again and it goes in just nice :thumb2

I see what you mean but it was like it throughout the test ride and I'd done just under 200 miles so it certainly wasnt temp related. Nearly had to start in 2nd once or twice to avoid abuse:spitfire .R

".....much room for negotiation on the value of my part/ex, and on the 'extras' I was buying for the bike....." THAT is the way to do it; the dealer, so I am told, has much more leeway on the accessories - so if you know what you (wil) want then a deal is possible. Most bikes now come with various 'packs' of options - if you know what you want you may be able to find one in stock somewhere and a dealer may have trouble resisting an offer for a bike standing in his showroom. (No, it won't work for his demonstrators because everyone tries that!)
