I have recently bought a 2011 GSA. Today I opened the toolkit. Was it worth it! Three torx bars, a screwdriver and the oil cap remover. Thats it.

Wheres the spark plug removal tool and more importantly the spark plug spanner?

Go on tell me it doesn't come with those bits and its something I have to buy from BMW.

Yup, that's aboout the size of it. I keep an RAC card in with mine though which guarantees I won't breakdown.

I think BMW do a 'full toolkit' set which is bought seperately. I'm not sure how much it is, but I'm guessing not cheap.

I bought a Cruz tool roll, and the wunderlich spark plug tools. They're not cheap either..but they're better quality than the OE tool kit.

So unfortunately what you've got is what you get :blast

Looks like the Wunderlich spark plug tool is the one to go for.

Is there a reasonably priced plug spanner for the DOHC? Not sure I want to buy the Cruz tool kit (Mega bucks) just for a plug spanner.

You are better off putting your own kit together. Wunderlich stuff is hideously expensive. Laser do a coil puller for about a tenner, the standard plastic one is shite. Spark plug sockets you can get from any car spares shop or ebay.

Do you know what size spanner I need?

I use the AA (came with the bike insurance).

At home I have a long plug spanner 3/8 drive from Halfords, a cheap 1/4" & 1/2" six point socket set with lots of torx and hex bits and a 3/8 drive set of Torx sockets.

Total cost was under £100 and 1/5 of that was the plug spanner.

Unless you are going to Mongolia or something, do you think you will ever need to pull a spark plug out on the road?

.

Being a good little member I did the search thing and found this thread. My GS came without a tool kit. I have been carrying the tool kit from my previous bike but that seems utterly pointless.

I have acquired the tool to open the oil filler, and a torx/hex/security (whatever they are called) set of keys. I have found use for two of the torx keys, 25 and 30 I think.

I have a puncture kit, a selection of cable ties, a first aid kit and an RAC card stowed away and subscribe to the theory 'If you don't know how to use it, don't carry it'.

Beyond these tools and bits what else should I be carrying on the bike for roadside use. TIA :beerjug:

The mobile tool kit has a phone number that starts with 08.....

More info to put your mind at rest here.

I have recently expanded my toolkit with a plug spanner and coil puller from Bristol Superbikes. I won't be carrying them but they are needed for when I change the plugs etc.
