As everyone else I am dissapointed with the tool kit - BMW were always famous for tools. Years ago I even got a BMW rag! The last good one I bought new was my '99 1100GS. A super tool kit and mounted in such an amazing manner (same ast the 1150s).
The older bikes (airheads) even had full instructions in the handbooks on how to service the bikes - valves, oils, plugs etc etc.
I can't deny that the current bikes are not clearly an advancement in technology, performance etc.......(though, not sure if I have any more fun now than 20 years ago on the airheads)
The new 1200s are such a retrograde step (in regards to the tool kit) - I guess BMW think that their customers have short memories, not counting the huge number of new customers who probably won't know what they are missing.
I also guess that BMW will try and tell you that the bikes don't meed tools these days - because they are so reliable.............oh, reallllly?
I ordered a few of the tools I felt I needed to remove the wheels and plugs etc including the bigger tool bag from BMW for about $50. I now have what I should have had in the first place and it fits under the seat just fine! I do like to have the BMW tools rather than a mixture from the aftermarket.
