My GSa topbox has arrived (BMW version), dealer has stated 1/2 hour for fitting. I thought it would be a simple case of clipping the box on just like the panniers. Am I correct or is there more to it than that?

there's a few bolts to fit the top box rack onto the basic rack.

1/2 hour? with a tea break :nenau

4 nuts and bolts one for each corner of the rack, same as the Hepco and Becker one I fitted which took all of 5 minutes.

Is he charging to fit it?

i see you've removed your cat.

Coopers Reading where good enough to fit my pannier frames FOC, I think the mechanic took pitty on Mike and I as the initial intention was for him to give me a hand (lend me the tools) fitting the frame when they arrived.

I picked the topbox and frame later and fitted them at home, no big shakes the only thing that concerned me was the torque setting for the small blots seemed too high.

take some tools along and fit it yourself on their forecourt :thumb

They probably charge out time in multiples of a half hour so that will be the lowest amount they can bill you on their system.

Does sound like a rip off though

reGSA top box

:beerjug: :beerjug: :beerjug: Hi There are 2 possible heights as the bmw rack has two holes at each corner I put mine on the higher setting and yes 5 to 10 mins max,use locking nuts or they loosen, makes getting through town much easier than with the panniers fitted!! Ive already hit my car ,other peoples cars and the garage door with the panniers fitted doh!! :beerjug:

When I bought the stickers, sorry, panniers from Forry, M C coded the locks, all 4 of them, and supplied the coffee F.O.C. I offered payment, they refused. That's good customer service :thumb
Not stirring it, just relaying information about a service that a dealer provided and the cost.
Take the tools, save the £30 quid and buy a gerry can for our next run. ;)

The half hour charge will probably include coding the locks

Not to continue the stirring but my dealer coded the six locks for the panniers at no cost and it took about 20 minutes including fitting them.

From memory the top box takes 2.

Speaking of which I have 2 spare locks ready for coding if you need any. :thumb

Hi

They wanted to charge me 1 hour to fit the top box and the plate.
June 2006, SPC.
Obviously, coffee and cake included...,...

Cheers.

1200gS topbox

Advice needed...........Brought a Kappa K42. Did not buy the fitting bracket specific to the 1200 GS as dealer said the universal mound would be fine attached to the rear rack.

Does anyone have any experience of problems fitting this way ???

I would not mount any topbox to the GS rack without a bike specific mounting plate that included supporting legs to bolt to the ends of the bikes frame.

The 1200Gs "tripod" rack is not designed to cope with the load and stress of a top box, this was proved when Hepco and Becker's initial 1200GS rack was replaces by one with supports after complaints of racks breaking.
