New to site and just got 2011 GSA 3 months ago - best bike I've ever had (& I've had quite a few), handling, low down grunt, fast point to point etc etc. One thing I've noticed though is the vibes thru the foot rests above 4500 rpm. And a buzziness through the bars which sends my throttle hand quite numb. Never had this with my previous boxer - 1200 ST. Is this normal on the GS/GSA?

Solution ish..

This might help, I'm no expert but I suffered with mine when (june 2nd 2011)new & low milage..

Rubber inserts for footpegs...

Motrax cruise control (paddle) for throttle grip, (ebay £8) motrax no longer available but alternative works ok. I use BMW summer gloves that are thin & offer virtually no vibration insulation when gripping the throttle, now I rest my palm on the straight bits of road..

The good news, now with 3500 miles on the engine is starting to be much smoother, more responsive & I'm starting to get impressed..

Might eventually install lead weights into handlebar tubes if I can't live with it, anyone else done that.?

Regards... Phil :beerjug:

I had the same with my GSA when i first had it.I have know done around 5000 miles over the last 4 months and either i have got used to it or it has got better,i think the latter is the case.:thumb2

From what I can gather from various posts on here is that the bikes tend to differ quite a bit. Some have reported quite bad vibes, some not that noticeable. I have to say that my 2010 GSA isn't that bad at all, nowhere near as bad as the 05 GS I had. hAving said that I've not done any excessive stints on the motorway, but on the runs I have done it's not been bad at all.

Got the rubber inserts for the pegs but they don't seem to be having much effect. Will altering the end bar weights have any affect. If so how do you know what to alter them to?

Yep my GS has a case of the vibes, which is worse on the right hand bar

I reckon if you have hand protectors fiited then your choices of extra weighty bar ends is limited

Hi again, personally I would put a few more miles on the bike first, but I had considered filling the hollow handlebars with lead or lead shot in bags, although mine is gradually getting better now.

I'm on a long trip round Europe next few weeks & I'll see how it goes. If it's really bad I'll do temporary mods while I'm away. (hope not though)

You may find that the Lambda Probe's need replacing. I have a 9 month old GSA and from new the vibration from the off side cylinder was very bad and the bike was unrideable. Rainbow tried everything to cure the problem and eventually changed the Probe's. Since then no problems and have got 10,000 miles on the clock.

Think I'll wait a bit before thinking about changing the end weights and put a few more miles on the clock to see if that helps (currently 2500). Vibes no where near as bad as Bilko's but I'll keep the lamda sensors in mind at service time and see what the dealer says.

Mine has now done 6k since being new in April. It has decidedly got better and on my last trip to the Czech Republic I didn't notice it much at all. However, I've got a cruise control (the little plastic thing from America) and though I only use it now and again; it does allow me to rest (flex) the throttle hand for a few seconds (a minute or so) which stops the hand going numb.
