About to make a decision on buying some varios.

Am I right in thinking that if I remove the GSA metal rack the Varios should mount by slotting into the holes on the rear seat mounting plate? Also I'd just need to get some brackets arms that the panniers slot into at the bottom of the panniers?

Thanks

Nope the vario top box has a different mounting plate/grab handle. The side panniers have their own different mounts as well.

Thanks Mark, not really interested in the top box at the moment, but might at a later date. What other mounts do I need for the panniers apart from the mounting arms at the bottom?

I have a brand new pairs of these wrapped up in the shed if you need. I took mine straight off to mount ardcases. Never realised they were so expensive.

You need this lot to fit Varios. Standard on GS. I went the GSA box/rack route and sold the old parts, often on EBay. You need to swap over everything as varios have totally different fittings.

Your statement is correct. You will need to remove both the GSA pannier frames and top box rack, and you'll need to fit the parts that Ted has referred to. You won't however have pillion grab handles or facility for a top box unless you fit the GS rear rack. If strength is an issue be aware that all the parts you will be fitting are plastic and not steel.
It's not possible to use vario panniers and retain the GSA rack & top box.

The GSA rack is a lot heavier and more complicated than it should be. Alternative rack and cases can save a lot of weight and complications or use that weight to better advantage (stronger cases).
