Just got back from 2 weeks in Mallorca and ended trip on a high with rental of a GS for a day. Pleasantly surprised to see a GS12 at hire shop as was expecting just mopeds etc. After nearly 2 weeks of not riding a bike, I was desperate to get my fix especially after we had seen such fantastic roads whilst out in our hire car.
You can't see a road like that and not want to ride it?
It was off-season and hire shop not yet up to speed so no boots or gloves available. Fortunately, Lidls on Mallorca had all the bike gear on sale last week so I managed to get myself fully kitted out in all the gear.
Picked bike up first thing in the morning and headed up East coast to the North East coast:
Note how empty and unspoilt the whole area is around here. They didn't tell me I couldn't take it off-road so I managed to find some excellent trails:
There were some more extreme ones used by mountain bike riders but as I was on my own I decided against those.
Around the corner on this trail and another completely deserted area.
From there I headed up to the North West corner. Lots of altitude changes and again fantastic roads with wonderful views.
By this point I was really loving the GS12. It felt great on these roads and had just enough power to blast past the few hire cars on the roads.
Lighthouse at end of road:
Great roads to get to it:
Apparently, this road is known as the "Three Marys" as the coach drivers say 3 prayers to Virgin Mary before they attempt to drive down.
The coach companies all have an agreement to drive down before mid-day and drive back up between 1 and 2 pm. Go after 2 pm and no coaches.
Have to slow down a bit to squeeze the GS through this gap.
Then down the West coast road which runs for 140 kms of good quality well surfaced road:
Took the bike back in evening and hire operator was amazed when I showed him I had clocked up 422 km during the day.
I definitely got my moneys worth out of the hire.
Would recommend the hire firm if anyone else finds themselves in Mallorca with family etc and wants a day off riding.
One of the most memorable rides on a GS in ages.
