Sorry if this has already been posted. :ronno

Bring a Trailer are running an auction in the USA for 1995 BMW R100GS PD Classic in Factory Crate. Current Bid: $41,000 with 4 days left:

On initial reading I believed it was a "new old stock" bike and reading many of the comments others still do.

However, on full reading it is clear from the odometer reads 99,985 KM.

It looks to me that people are bidding a lot of money for the wooden box.

I read recently that good condition GSPD models can command premium prices in the US, way more than we'd pay over here.
That said, $41k does sound a tad excessive...

New or Used? Worded to make you believe it's BNIB...

Being sold in New York having come from a Canadian BMW importer & dealer. Nowhere does it claim to be unused - just that it's still in the original crate it was shipped to Canada in.
Big deal! And potentially misleading. Buried in the blurb "The 200-km/h speedometer contains a five-digit odometer that shows 99,985 kilometers. Total mileage is unknown."
No mention of whether it was new/used when it first arrived from Europe. Nor even what date it was first imported. Is it a genuine north american model? It's got the smaller 32mm carbs - but the speedo is in km/h...
I reckon it's a very tidy used bike, stashed and then moved on at some point by the importer only to then end up in the US.

99,985 allows for a post-assembly test ride so the first owner gets it at 00000.

i read that , and thought the same ,BUT , of all the new bikes ( not BMW ) i have PDI'd , Jap bikes come with maybe 1 or 2 miles on them Guzzi's come with 1-6 miles on them, ( Guzzi run them on a rolling road in the factory ) Triumphs with less then 1 mile. . I've never seen a bike with an allowance like that on it ?

maybe a BMW tech from when they were new, can shed some light.

It's a spam. Bike in London. Seller a teenager in Airdrie who likes fishing not motorbikes. And lives in a country where VAT is 20%, not 19%, and doesn't realise it's not payable anyway.

If it's too good to be true.....it isn't.

Looking at the stuff he has on his web page it's all pie in the sky.

This does it for me mind!

Most bikes look better in one colour or another. For me the P-Ds are extreme - I really like that red/white scheme, massively in fact.

But some of the other schemes, esp the ones they sold into Europe.... not quite so special, let's say!

I think the worst one of the lot was the classic….looks like a tarts handbag with all that chrome.

So how does that work then? You go to London to see the bike and find it isn't there but is in Scotland... how does that expand his bank account? I just don't get it.

Probably looks for a deposit, price is so low some will think they're stealing a bargain from under the noses of others not as quick as them to pay a deposit.
