There seems to be another world shortage of a Gartmin accessory. Does anyone know what the problem is or when they are likely to reach these shores?

I have one on order at globalpositioningsystems for over 2 weeks now with no hint of a delivery date.

Does Garmin make one thing at a time, as it was a similar problem with the motorcyle mounts.

Other forum members have reported that they have been able to purchase this part with immediate delivery from other stockists.

Before you blame the manufacturer, consider for a moment that it is not uncommon for many 'internet' retailers to operate with no stock on hand whatsoever - how do you think they manage to get away with such low prices? These retailers collect the orders from the customers, then place their order with the distributor or manufacturer. It is entirely possible that the problem in the distribution chain is at the retailer or distributor level, not at the manufacturer level.

Perhaps call up a few High Street shops and see if they have it in stock. Sure, the price will be higher... simply because the High Street store has to cover the costs of maintaining a retail presence, and keeping stock on hand.

Just out of curiosity the link which you've posted does detail a gtm 12 but the picture shows a gtm 10/11 i think?

Did you get one exactly like pictured on the link or a proper gtm 12?

No I didn't get the one in the picture I got a proper gtm 12!

Fair point but £150 didn't seem that low, also I'd love to phone a few High St stores or rather visit them but does anyone know any in the London area that sell Garmin accessories?

Maybe things are better in Europe but the only place I ever see Garmin kit is in adventure shops selling the handhelds and the likes of Dixon's etc. selling in car Sat Nav. I've yet to find a place that stocks a full range of Garmin and the accessories.

Anyone know any different?

I know it's easy for a web site to "virtually stock everything" but there's nothing like seeing things in the "flesh" as it were but alas I've never been able to do this with Garmin :(

My suggestion, if you are looking for a retailer that actually carries Garmin products in stock, is to look for a large marine chandler or a very large 'big box' electronics superstore.

Of the two, a large and well established marine chandler is probably the better bet.

The GTM 12 FM TMC traffic receiver is not that exciting to look at 'in the flesh'.

A mini USB plug, wire, plastic block (which I take to be the receiver) more wire about two feet long (which I take to be the aerial) and two plasic suckers to hold the wire (aerial) to the windshield.

It works. Just as it says on the tin.

Order one. If you don't like it send it back or flog it on this site.

Here is a picture of it. As mentioned earlier in another thread, be sure that you purchase the UK specific version of it, which has the unlock code for the RAC Trafficmaster service pre-installed. Don't buy one over the internet from the USA, because those ones won't have the RAC Trafficmaster service unlocked.
