I have just been to view a 1989 R100RT Monoshock
It has 48K with all old MOT`s to prove
It has a full MOT and some tax
It is in very tidy condition, owned by an oldish chap who lives on a well tended bungalow. He was made redundant a few months ago and needs the cash.
He strikes me as meticulous. Some of the parts he has bought for the bike are probably not what most would bother with, such as the little plastic caps on top of the forks.
He has also fitted progressive fork springs, recent new coil etc etc. There is a big list of bills.
It is not mint, but what I would describe as very good gondition. No cracks to plastic, but the odd scratch and spots of rust on the frame here and there. Both wheels spin freely so calipers ok.
Engine sounds really taut, with just light tappet noise.
Exhaust is very good with newish silencers by the looks of it.
All instruments including voltmeter and clock work.
Has BMW panniers
I know you really need to see a bike in the metal, but based upon the above, what would you value it at?

I got my 100 RT mono last year from Jaber of this site. cant remembner exactly but I think I paid about 1750. Mine had 55K on the clock and was in nice condition and a very good runner, Have a look on my thread, Oh dear what have I done. you can compare the original condition with yours.
I have seen one or two up for over 2K but one at least was a minter.
great5 bikes and in my view, underated:thumb2

Was the ad in the non GS section of the forum? I have done a search of R100 and R100RT and it hasn`t come up

No, I met Jabber at the "Wee-Kend" last year. The bike was'nt advertised. in fact I dont think he had it inh mind to sell it:aidan

The pthers I have seen have been on fleabay

Sounds like the one I bought earlier this year, mine included new tyres and cost me £1600, only time will tell if it turns out to be a 'goodun'. I suspect in the past it may have been a R100RS judging by the black wheels.
They are all around a 1/4 century old, so no guarantee as to how its been looked after other than in the last few years.
If you're paying £1250 - £1750 you probably wont be losing much if you decide to sell it later.

From the research I have done I reckoned 1300 to 1500, so I guess I wasn`t far off. I just wanted confirmation as there is surprisingly little price info via good old google or ebay completed listings.
The guy is happy for me to test ride. I should have turned up with my gear but it wasn`t far away so I made it part of my evening run. I will try and get a ride over the next couple of days.

Bikes with an MOT and in regular use:

If it's definately an R100RT Mono. You can expect to pay between £1200 and £3000. Though 3K is rather optimistic.

If the bike turns out to be the more common R80RT mono, then you can pick them up from as little as £750. I wouldn't recomend you pay more than £2500 for a really good one.

For some unexplained reason the 'Mono' doesn't seem to be considered a worthwhile investment. Therefore they don't cost much in relation to some of the older /5,6,&7s. Maybe now is a good time to invest :nenau Afterall they are significantly better than any of the Airheads that have gone before. :thumb2

PS: Others may have a different oppinion. :P

Thanks for the link to ginsterboys.....sorry pastymans:Dthread.
I reckon that is a pretty good match condition wise.
Are you saying the R100RT Mono is quite rare then?

It's a fair bit rarer than the 80RT, the 100RT is a later model with subtly different styling. The R80 is often favoured over the R100 as it's claimed to be a smoother ride. However the 100 has a few more ponies and probably more fun on the road. It's the one I'd go for. The panniers are much better looking too. :D

Forgot to mention that the tyres have done few miles.
I am getting the impression I may buy this thing as I feel I can`t lose if I don`t like it and decide to sell after a while. It is priced enticingly:augie
I will sleep on it.

I had an R80RT Mono. Bloody thing used to slow down when you rode into a head wind.

There was a RT100 Classic in superb order, 35 thou miles, and one of the last made sold for £3600! a few weeks ago on ebay.Airhead values seem to be getting ever stronger,if they are nice ones.

OOOOO In reply to this Shelly girl, Ginsters are not proper pasties, they are factory made for the lunderners who have no taste.

Seriously though, there are two ways to go. you can get a cheap shed and then spend a load on it or look around for a nice one. Mine was in the latter group although I have done a bit of a rebuild mainly cos I wanted something to do in the winter. I hav'nt spent a lot on it and she looks and rides great.
They are never going to make lots of cash but they are pretty good reliable bikes and better than most you can get for under 2k.. How about some pics .

I can`t believe I haven`t done the deal on this yet. Not sure why. I have now test ridden it and apart from a few adjustments it goes fine.
It is up for £995 and I reckon I could get it for £900.
I don`t think I could ever lose on it, but for some reason I haven`t `pressed the button. Must be my age!

At £990ish it's not the price your worried about, it's wether you are ready for an airhead.

They all need fettling and a bit of money spent on them if your the fussy type, just think of the maintenance as therapy:D

You may be right there. It felt very old school, a bit like a smoother version of my T3 Guzzi, but it was kind of intriguing and sort of left me wanting to do more miles. However, at that price I don`t think I could possibly lose money if I sold it on. That is why I don`t belive I haven`t bought it. This is the first time I have been in this situation. Maybe I need to see it one more time and just buy it or forget it.
