I am going to have a go at doing a service on my 2002 1150GS this weekend . I have Hepco and Becker engine bars fitted . Before I start i was wondering if I am going to need to take off the bars prior to doing the valves and end float etc. Just trying to prepare myself for the task ahead . This will be a first for me so I am a little aprehensive .
Cheers All . Frontbrake

Hi Frontbrake
got the same bars as you , decided to try it with them on and managed ok :thumb .
more of a fiddle doing the throttle balance than the valves to be honest with the bars in the way .

tip - don't do what i did , i did one side and put it back together including putting the spark plug back in :blast oh how i laughed after trying to turn the rear wheel to get the other side to TDC .

ps make sure your plug covers go back on right , i lost one on the test ride :(

Take ya time all will be well :thumb

Hello.
I've got the H&B on my 2000 single spark. If I’m going to do the end float I remove them completely, as my torque wrench won't fit in. If it's just the tappets then slacken off the rear bolt the one above the pot and remove the bolt in front of the belt cover. Leave the side your not working on tight, I then pull the slackened bar away from the bike and knock a wood wedge between the bars were they meet in front of the belt cover. This will give you the space to remove the rocker cover.

When you're done tighten the bars back up and do the same on the other side.

If the bars were fitted when you bought the bike and you need to be aware of something, don't remove the rear bolt on both sides at the same time. Also if the rear bolt is removed I find I have to lift the final drive with a trolley jack to get everything lined up. (That why I only slacken them off.)

Have a good one.

Ian
