Anyone have any experience of an H4 HID conversion?

Les Wassall's fine site (www.hid50.com) doesn't paint a very good picture on H4 conversions (2 beams/1 bulb/bad).

All thoughts gratefully received (I see that Les offers an H4 kit, just want to gather opinion generally).

mail ugg, he seems happy with his:thumb
it seems to have improved his, but he got a cheap set up, then switched to les,s bulbs as they had more clearance or summat

Av searched the net and bought another cheaper kit then sent it back..
a must say les 50w kit is allot better.

the beam pattern is still very wide, but ye get shit loads of light to make up for it..

dip beam is long and wide..
full beam is more like a spot..

i still use my aux driving lights and my spot lights to fill in the shadow areas..
y? because i can:D

les bulb splits apart so ye fit it straight to the light unit , unlike other bulbs which are one piece and ye have to fekin fiddle about wi putting the bulb holder device over the bulb...

i also put more washers on the back of the vertical light adjuster so to give the bulb more room inside the headlight unit....

the one thing i love is ,every thing thats reflective just shines back at yer, even in day time ridin...
make's council workers look dumb back at yer wi ther glowin jackets...

the gs 1100 head light is gives a very wide beam off, so if ye fit this kit to a round h4 headlamp , by ek ye would get a reet beam patern..

i dont promote les kit , im just reportin on the results i have wi mine;)
Hes a good feller to deal wi so its up to yersen..

Is this a true Plug-n-Play option or does it still require some of the original headlamp parts to me modified?

Adie

Theres no such thing as plug and play:blast
try buying a part that says "universal fits all models"...bollox..it dont work that way

with my kit we had to hide the loom under the side pannels, the loom doesnt allow much room for the balast..
ye fit it under the beak or extend it and fit under the tank..

like i said earlier the only mod was to remove the headlight adjuster and fit more washers to the back to give more room for the bulb to fit in the headlight unit.

we cut the gromet back on the headlight to alow more wiring to fit through the hole where the hid loom feeds in.

it take longer that 20 minutes like some manufactures state..

all the fafin about is worth it to the vast improvement ye get from the modification...

Thanks.

I asked as If I went that route it would be for KTM 990 SM and its all pretty tight behind the headlamp.

Cheers

H4 hid

I fitted one in my 05 Dakar. It is really easy. Just had to make the hole bigger in the backing plastic as per instructions. worked a treat and the light was awesome.
It was plug and play so did not have to go to the battery.

cheers strobing'

Thought long and hard about it for my 1100 - but in the end I decided to fit a pair of spots to 'fill out' the dip. (out of town) - I have no complaints about the main beam on my bike - however the spots improved that too - adjusted so that oncoming traffic doesn't 'flash' at me. I rather think that the stock 1100 headlamp isn't an ideal candidate for HID conversion - whereas the 'projector' 1150 most certainly is.
