H7 CREE LED headlight bulbs vs HID

No but if you get a pair, let us know how you get on with them. My bike has LED lamps but I'd be interested in bunging a pair of these in main beam in my car.

Thise 5th Gen are under £50 so quite a saving over Horizon 4th gen. I'd be tempted by one of these if I was not already using HID.

I have concerns over the first link. There is no heat sink and no mention of the actual light output. it just smacks of cheap bulbs that don't put enough light out. The second horizon link does have cooling and does give a light output. They are pretty similar to the ones I have on my KTM bought from cyclops and they work really well. They don't put out quite as much light as mine but the difference is probably hardly noticeable.

The amazon ones will work. I don't think they will last as long because of the passive cooling but I could be wrong on that. It also has a packaging problem for bikes. You either leave the cooling hanging out the unsealed back of the light or cram it all inside. The latter will definitely shorten its life. Be warned as well that the headline 5000 lumen is for two H7 bulbs. Not bad but not cutting edge either. I think a decent HID setup would be better.

Another word of warning about pretty much all aftermarket LED bulbs. If you ride in the extreme cold your likely to run into problems. There is no heat on the glass/plastic so they don't defrost. OEM like the toilet LED headlight uses a fan to move the warm air from the hot part over the front of the light to warm it so they thaw. Aftermarket bulbs just dump the hot air either into the bowl or straight to outside depending on how you fit them.

Heat is a big problem with high power LED, they get hot they stop working. It's the junction point that gets hot but if you don't cool that the LED gets it. Don't get me wrong, it's no where near a halogen or HID burner but you need to get rid of it.

They are for heated rear Windows aren't they, a tad large for headlight use,

The first one, if you read the blurb, says its a fog lamp bulb although it will fit other H7 holders. Maybe its designed to be just bright close up like fogs and doesnt have the focal designs built in to allow the reflector to project the beam far enough forward.
