Yep,

Picked up my 15,000 miler 06 GS last week from Bahnstormer and already had to have it recovered- final drive oil seal leaking oil over back tyre and brake (gulp!) making handling somewhat "interesting". (makes a change from fuel pump controller/ring antenna, no?)

Have been offered a loan car, but as I already have a car dont need it. What I do need and now wont have, is my bike, as I WAS riding to Scotland tomorrow for a few days stopover/sightseeing etc.

To be fair BMW emergency assist were helpful and did try and get me a bike (as they knew I was going away) but surprise surprise not one single dealer within the M235 had a hire bike free......Bummer.

Guess my new bike owner honeymoon is well and truley over already, can only hope this let down is not the way its going to be.........

Doesn't that point to a piss poor PDI by the dealer before you picked it up? I mean, its not as if we all dont know (dealers included) that its a key potential failure point... Have you had a new Ring Antenna fitted too? Get it changed before it fails if hasnt been done.

Only if oil was present and showing on the casing at the time of delivery, which in turn would beg the question"Why did the customer accept it?"

My rear drive seal is due to be changed tomorrow. The bike was showing no loss of oil when i cleaned it beforer heading off to Scarborough. However 170 miles later oil all over the swing arm.Took 2 hours to become evident.

Seals dont just fail suddenly. They break down in time - they perish. Surely the final drive seal can be inspected for signs of perishing? I find it a bit hard to swallow otherwise...

PDI

WHEN I WENT TO TEST RIDE MY BIKE IT WOULDNT START FLAT BATTERY PICKED IT UP A WEEK LATER STARTED FINE, ALL THEY HAD DONE WAS CHARGE UP THE BATTERY NOT TEST IT, HAD TO CALL RECOVERY OUT AND THEY REPLACED THE DUFF BATTERY, WHEN SPENDING THE BEST PART OF £7000, WOULD OF EXPECTED THE DEALER TO CONDUCT A FULL CHECK OVER,BIKE WAS VERY CLEAN THOUGH

Thats better.

For the record all capitals is really hard to read (well for me at least).

spit then :D

is the dealer supposed to inspect every seal on the bike then? can't tell by looking at them anyway.
there's not going to be any visible perishing, even if you took the seal out.

one of those things i'm afraid.

sorry

dont get all this shouting stuff just type, not really a computer expert Ill try and type in lower case next time:handbag

Out of curiosity is your bike grey with the last letters in reg KKC?

I genuinely don't think Bahnstormer are at fault - this oil leak only minifested itself yesterday afternoon (after coming back from Bahnstormer funnily enough - bought a Twat suit:o) and before that it was fine. Bahnstormer had previously prepped the bike to my satisfaction and in fact supplied it at quite a high standard.

Given how often I have been outside and looked at my new purchase over the last few days:mmmm and not noticed anything, I am certain it only happened yesterday!

Anyone got any idea if this is a major job and therefore there might be a fighting chance I might get the bike bake in time to salvage my trip?

Hi Davidjames.

Yes KKC are the last numbers and yes its grey........Tell me what you know..........!

It is my old bike :D I traded it in for a new GSA earlier this year - and hand on my heart there were no signs of any issues when I had it, it was completely reliable. I loved that bike!!!! It took me on my first European bike trip:http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146043&highlight=harz

Bahnstormers will get your problems sorted and you can get back to enjoying her soon.

Cheers

Actually in these kind of applications they do not perish as such, they wear to the point that they seal or do not.In my expierience the circuference spring usually fails opening the flood gates.:D

WHEW!

Thought you were going to say something like "yeah they never could fix that oil leak all the time I had it , what a lemon etc etc" !!!

Thanks for your words - its great to know who owned it previously and I shall read about your trip this evening. Dont know if you had it from new (?) but if it was down to you, thanks for the additions you made to it - spoked wheels, engine bars etc. Just bought some new Vario panniers/topbox on it for the (non) trip, looking at them on my living room floor at the moment :(

If your not a million miles away could be an idea to re-introduce you to the beast at some point!

Yes was mine from new, I used it daily to commute from Reading to Guildford (55miles per day) hence the relatively high mileage, but it was mostly dual carriage way or fast A roads so it has not had a hard life. It has also never been so much as dropped let alone any accidents - I managed to drop the GSA in the 1st week:o Any marks on the hand guards were from trying to squeeze it down the side of the house. If you have any questions just PM me.

Cheers

David
