AND I LOVE IT :JB:JB:JB:JB Just had to tell you all.

05 reg, 1200GS in Blue. 8000 miles.

In the first week, I managed to cover 350 miles. Not bad considering I was at work every day, and my daily commute is 100yds. Even I can walk that.

It's my first BMW and I can't help wondering why the Japs don't use some of the ideas that BMW do...

A little lever, to lower the headlight beam, for when you are fully loaded. GENIUS.
SOFT comfy suspension, that actually HANDLES properly (are you listening Mr Kawasaki??).
A screen that works and is ADJUSTABLE (but I now have a tobinator fitted).
ABS. Not needed it, but it's reassuring to know it's there. It stops me sliding the back end into parking spaces :blast
Chunky switches that work with a gloved hand.
A "hidden" system so you can turn the headlights OFF for daytime use. I DO NOT use headlights in the daytime.
Remotely adjustable preload (big black knob).
An ability to run on crap petrol (91octane).
Fuel guage.
Hazard lights.

BUT.

WHY did they put the start button up there??? And the kill switch?? I thought you were supposed to be able to turn the engine off without removing your hand from the bars.
I'm getting used to the indicators, but still can't see the benefit of 3 switches.
Bloody horn button. WHY do I have to push it UP, and not IN??
Fuel guage. Brilliant idea. Just as comical as the Jap ones.
Accessory catalogues. I thought LandRover ones were big. I could spend thousands on bike kit. I won't. Although I have got some shiny bits to add on :augie:augie
Bugger all storage under the seat. Can't even get my chain and lock under there.
Beardy blokes keep wanting to talk to me :eek :eek :eek

That's it for now. I'm off out to fit my shiny bits.... Then ride it some more. It's costing me a fortune in petrol, and the missus seems to have forgotten I live here.....

BLOODY TORX SCREWS......

Whats wrong with allen head/hex heads????

I'm off to the tool shop.....

I get most of my tools (including Torx bits) from Halfords as they seem good value for money and some have a lifetime warranty. I have only used it once, but it was simply a case of turning up with my broken hex bit and they replaced it with one. No fuss or hassle. :thumb

As a recent arrival in the 1200 camp after selling my lovely 100 GS bumble and my V-strom, I agree with your list of pros and cons. The lack of storage is the only one that really irritates me, but there always has to be something. :comfort

1200s

damn them men/ladies(gotta be PC) in bavaria,

They make bikes that dont look pretty and if you read all the posts on this site probably will conk out within 50 meters of your local bumw dealer, cost the earth for cosmetic and mechanical enhancements (nippy normans guilty)
But why on earth do they get so much under your skin that we are willing to put up with issues that should be sorted in the factory and problems that Honda would never be accused of.It seems that the BMW badge is premium and we (tossers) are all guinea piglets.Anyway rant over love the bike and the 1920s engine configeration but will the boxer as we know it pass 2010 emissions, maybebaby or will it be a v twin coupled to the shaft come next year, who knows ?

There's no reason for a boxer engine to fail emissions. Maybe water cooling may be required, so keeping the engine at a more constant temperature.

Just think of a boxer as a 180 degree V twin :thumb2
