Installed a new one on my 2002 single spark bike and set it to the etched location marks of the old taken out. Once fuel was pumped through it did fire up and ran for 10mins in neutral, then I switched off. All well and good but, it has not ran since albeit trying for a few days.
Plugs show sooting up again.

Does a mm or two either side of my original scribe marks make any difference to starting?

Need to take tank of again to adjust sensor plate, as this time I have a 'timing box' to ensure if those scribe marks are the culprit.

I recently replaced my hall sensor, and the new one did not match up with old (as you say etched marks to try out in the exact same position).

The way I found best (without a tool to tell you the correct position) is to turn bike over to TDC, and then move hall sensor until you hear fuel pump prime. At this point tighten all 3 Allen screws up, it should be fairly close to the correct position. I did this method and my bike is running spot on.

I hope this helps, cheers
