Over the years I've had several bikes, though my current 1200GS is my first BMW and I love it :D

On my previous bike (Pan European, owned for 7 years), I had changed the headlight bulbs to what I think were called "Halogen Gold bulbs". They threw out more of a yellow light rather than a pure white light. They threw out a particularly bright yellow light when on full beam.

My logic at the time for using these "gold bulbs" was to ensure that I'd stand out more to drivers - particularly when riding in the wet or filtering through traffic.

The idea of getting drivers to (perhaps) just take a second look in their mirror to clock what the yellow light was, may have made the difference between them not initiating a manoeuvre and (I'd like to think) pulling a little to one side to let me through.

I can't seem to find these "gold bulbs" any more so haven't fitted them to my current GS.

Has anyone else heard of the type of bulb and what are your thoughts on my logic Guys (and of course Gals)?

Funilly enough I did the same on my old bike for the same reasons. IIRC the bulb was a Halfords own brand sold for poor driving conditions (eg snow / fog).

I thought these looked very interesting, although having just upgraded my lights to something just acceptable by fitting 50% brighter bulbs would not want to take a step back in that respect

Doing anything to make your bike stand out a bit from other traffic seems like a good thing.

How about a very pale yellow filter over the dipped headlight?

Yeah! I thought about that, but didn't really like the idea of something else over my headlights as I already have asteel headlight protector from TT.

FWIW, I don't recall losing any brightness when I had the "gold" bulbs on my previous bike, though the headlights on a Pan european were particularly good anyway .....

The Philips web link looked really interesting, though at £15.99 for a H7 bulb (albeit includes P&P), is a bit pricey ...... It'd be interesting if any other member has bought a set.

Just bought a set, in store, £17.99 no a BOGOF offer, so not that bad really.

On the subject of getting noticed, I used to use the Blue tinted halogen's from Halfords coz in my way of thinking, every motorist looks twice when they catch a glimpse of a blue light.

that said, I'm trying the 50% brighter ones for now.
