Hammersmith flyover closed ......

Transport for London (TfL) said the Hammersmith flyover, which carries traffic from the M4 and A4, would be shut until at least early January.

The flyover which forms part of a key route in/out of west London has been shut due to a serious structural defect.

Dreadful , commited to driving the car because I had a bootfull of equipment, I drove round the M25 and in on the A40. So glad I listened to the traffic news

A few years ago, when they spent weeks using one bloke to paint the flyover railings, the queues often went back to Heston Services.

Luckily school and Xmas holidays should ease things a bit, but my guess is that this could drag on for many weeks.

One lane opened in each direction as from 04:30 GMT today - but the road remains closed to HGVs and coaches.
