As you may know, I have been trying to get into trail riding and just recently managed to get a DR350. I went out a couple of weeks ago but the tryes I had were shite so I changed them for some Michelin AC10 and boy what a difference.

Anyways, I met up with ThunderPT and found some nice trails to ride and boy was it great fun. I can see this becoming rather addictive!!

Did I capture any of it on camera? You bet I did. :)

I'm still yet to do that. I've done a few out that way Ashley, Parnholt Wood. and on further up. I'm too much of a wuss tbh. Need to get a bit fitter and learn how to fix punctures!!

I'm probably going to do a run out that way in january sometime if your interested? Probably head to salisbury on the trails, drop down to pepperbox hill and then get breakfast at the little cafe on the a27, then head across downton to the old ox and shatesbury drove.

As for punctures? easiest way is to change your own tyres using the kit you will carry on the trail, that way when you get a flat you'll know you have everything with you!

Ooooo can we play? I remember watching your videos actually and seeing you had a 30th edition F800GS. Would like to ride with another F800GS even though mines restricted :( :thumb

What kit do you carry on the trail? (links would be great too if possible) :)

In my tool roll (it's a kriega) there is probably:

combination spanners from 8-14mm.

allen keys from 3 to 10mm

valve removal tool

Mt zefal mtb bike pump

A motion pro chain tool (can be bought through adventure spec).

3 tyre levers- about 8" long. (think i bought mine from www.racespec.com)

Spanner to remove front and rear axle nuts.

Plug spanner

small leatherman type tool or side cutters

spare fuses

electrical tape

small can wd40 (handy for lubing tyres when you have to put them back on the rim)

screwdriver

zip ties

knife

21" tube. doesn't need to be heavy duty- a lightweight as a get your home measure will be fine, and can be fitted in either end of the bike.

there will also be a few standard spare fastenings for the bike, as well as a few spare links of chain and split links to.

Most of this is bike specific. the best way to develop your kit would be to do your own maintenance on the bike, and make a list of all the tools you use, and just carry these. practising changing tyres will help develop technique, which will reduce time and effort required, and also the tools you require.

if there is a regular group you could always split some tools (like a chain tool).

In addition to the above i'll have OS landranger maps, clear map wallet and a garmin oregon sat nav.

Sorry to disappoint but its the F650 GS which is partly why I got the DR

Awesome, thanks. At the moment I take out the stock tool kit, OS maps, water and cameras erm... I need to sort some more stuff out :) Or just make sure I ride with you! lol

Which is fine, provided i have remembered to put all my tools back in the roll after i've finished working on the bike, and not left them on the workbench at home :blast

:D

What kind of mileage is this? I'd be up for it if you don't mind an unfit n00bie with a kick start only DR350(390) with no real trail experience :D (Probably 10 hours recent experience)

Oh and when you thinking of. 15 and 22 are free at the moment. Can only do Sundays I'm afraid.

Keep an eye out in the off road events section of the forum- i'll put a post up in there once i have a better idea of how i'm fixed.

Get Water Lane and Steep under your belt. They will get the adrenaline going.

Plenty of good routes around. we are quite lucky here. Just take it easy as its even easier the for Nimbys to get the routes closed. Then we will never get them back.

Enjoy.
