Ive had my new 1200GS now a couple of weeks and a very fine bike it is, but the bars just don't seem to fit me. Sore lower arms and elbows is the main problem.

Has anyone tried rotating the bars upward slightly, and had any success doing so ?
I done a search, and most seem to favour the NN risers, however the risers seem to pull the bars back, as well as up, something i feel i dont really want.
As the bikes only 2 weeks on the road, i dont really want to start grafting Renthals etc on yet.

Strange thing is, i dont remember the demo bike i had, having the same feel to the bars. Maybe they have slight differences in the point where they are set at the factory or dealer?

just collected my 1200 and the same problem, so I have liffted the bars a bit and a much better feel now, see how I go and maybe risers later.

25Nm on the bar bolts :D

OK here goes!

Les, I was like you just thought they were a bit too far back, I rotated mine a bit forward but the clutch, brake levers end up at a funny angle!

I tried two pairs of Renthal fatties and they were OK but too low. Gone back to standard bars (powder coated black). The throttle switch can be rotated easily (along with the brake lever) to a sensible angle bay removing the cover and looseniong the ring clamp that holds teh unit to the bar. The left side is a bit harder as there is two screws that hold teh left grip to the bar. Drilling more holes in teh bar I dont think is a good idea. Having had the bars powder coated this grip is now an interferance fit so doesnt need teh screws (result) so now my original bars are on but rotated to place I want with the levers at the correct angle...... Takes a bit of trial and error tho' if you need more help contact me....

When they go forward, just loose the torx screw in the mirror cluster and rotate the control pod towards you, don't touch the gripes at all. :D

Renthal Twinwalls with Nippy Norman's bar risers were the answer for me - superbly comfortable and made the bike feel much more compact too.

Yes! I've rotating the bars as you described. I think that you may find a good improvement on off road drive too. I like it and I think that I'll not buy the raisers for the moment.. Torx at 21Nm and let the space in the rear of the supports.

Yes I rotate mine from time to time. I have marked a 'standing up' and seated position on the bars with a permanent marker. If I have a day where I am standing a lot I tilt them up. I have also fitted 25m risers. The risers (TT) came with new bolts which have an Allen fastener. I carry a key in my pocket and can adjust them in about a minute. I found out the painful way that not adjusting them back on the ride home from a dirt outing is not a good idea - wrists ached for days after.
