Hi Guys I need some advice on changing the handle bars on my 2002 1150gs.
I find the standard ones too high and wide prolly cos I also ride a blackbird.
I've pulled them back which has lowered them a bit but it dosn't seem to be the full answer.
Any suggestions please.:beerjug:

Do a search on R1150R bars. Some people on this list have fitted them, making the bars narrower. Don't know about lower though.

The difinitive answer is undoubtedly RICKY BARS. There is a discussion at present below on the GS Mods site. Also do a search on the ADvRider site, under GSpot forum. Expensive but the best thing you can do to the GS - Ricky for President! :D

agreed. hopefully he will be back selling soon. If you try the R route, I think Pint 6X did it (for other reasons).

well with out your measurements is a little

complicated to help you out..

i make you a deal, show us some pictures or tell us more about your specifics size and I give you some advice

I can tell you a few things.
* the bend(sweep) on the bars is less noticiable when the bars are almost flat.
* the bend on the bars become more abrup and botter some the higher(forward) than you move them,.
*I'm sure by now you find out that everytime you adjust the bars on one axis(front to back) is a incredible affect on the Up and down or viseversa,in short no way you can really win.
*the stock bars can be adjust to a "okay" level of comfort but will impossible to make them perfect,,unless you are about 175cms with really narrow shoulders and pretty long arms,,think Female japanese Anime caracter,,for the rest of us is a always a compromise.
*the wider the shoulders the wrost the bend on the bars is going to play a effect and the more pain you are going to experince this is all do to the lack of aligment of the palm of the hand in respect to the fore arm, elbow, shoulder,in short your wrist is taking to much unwanted angular loads, again the wider the shoulders the more abruptthis angles become,.
* the stock bars can not be cut any shorter since they mounted on isolators
* if you are willing to losee the heated grips and the bar ends you can install a variate of 7/8" handlebars that fit you needs better(most of the time you need barbacks to compensate.aka added cost, since the aftermarket bar are far smaller [lower] that the super tall OEM bmw bars)
*if you work a little harder, you can fabricate special bar ends inserts to be able to run the grips and the weights...

actually even if nobody believe me this is the BEST possible fix for the stock handlebars...sOmEdaY SoMeDay this theory will be accepted,,so far i'm shotting a little "ahead of the curv"

yeah use bar backs forward

this way the bars can be move really flat, making the bend less of a issue.

the other great thing about the sistem is that the grips are pretty much at the same place as before,,exept now they are lower and a little closser, increasing you reach but kepping your hands far lower(as uppose to almost horizontal with the ground,,,BaD IdEa)yeah the tank bag will work,,what else can you ask

I hope this helps,,give us some measurements or pictures and we can do some more focus advice

Value is a question of priorites and milliage,if you don't ride much who cares,if you can not tell the diference in between a Cocacola and a pepsi you don't need them, but if you are sensitive and perseptive and ride the S^^T out of your bike,,,well that is another story

- Ricky for President! :D

for president My AsS,,I can varelly keep my house in order, much less my brain,i'm just another geek that likes to ride and play around with things....

respectfully I decline.

well In countrys like Colombia I be "Gun down" because i will make the few guys look like S^^T.

again I don't think i'm that special, I'm just super passionate and some will say even Neurotic(I agree) and I find design work a fasinating brain exercise, love the challenge, Love to help,,I don't know I just feel usefull and you know what I like the fact that is very little B.S. involve at least in theory..
"if the plane flys it flyes if not it crash" you know objects can be argumentative on a semiotic or antropological view but if they don't really provide what you are looking for,,the just don't work..not like In politics when you can almost make "Pig fly" if you fill them with enogh hot Air.
Refer to the Movie Andrey Rublief from the russian director Andrey tarkospky(miss pronounce i'm sure) to get another perspective on the topic..

in short I Suck at most things in life ,scept for the few things i devote my full atencion, actually i'm learning this lesson and trying to become a little more cognozitive about my sorroundings..

sorry if this is to personal,i always end taking like I'm among close friends.
