I have a 2012 GS1200. I recently noticed that the top handlebar/fork yoke looked out of line when riding in a straight line. I remembered that a couple of weeks earlier while braking hard at slow speed to a standstill on even groud I heard a click or crack noise. I took it to the dealer and they said it is not uncommon. They slackened the clamp bolts on the forks and realigned them (almost).
has anyone had a similar experience? I am concerned that it might happen again.

Got my attention, not heard any noises or noticed anything odd, but my bars are not truly aligned to a straight line. I am using it tomorrow so will check it out to see if there is any odd movement and if so beeline for dealer. Mine is 2012 GS TB, picked up in Aug.

Saying that, my 57 plate came back after it's first service with the same issue, after taking it back, they just re-aligned it and that was that. They did not give me the "it's not uncommon" speech.

This is not a new problem, and I think if you do a search you will unearth some posts on this issue.
I seem to remember stories of all sorts of remedies including undoing all the clamp fixings and attempting to pull everything straight.
On the 2009 and GS I owned, the clocks were cock eyed, and made it look like the bars were angled to the right.
"Within tolerance" I was told!

Update

My forks are most definitely mis-aligned, in fact recovery vehicle is on route as I am typing. Reason, car smashed into me on the m4. Body is intact, bike is not. :-( just glad to be ok more than anything. I will update on fork alignment when I get my bike back.
