handlebar end weights???

All three of mine were exactly the same. Don't ask :rolleyes:

Oh, and the parts fiche only shows one part number.

Do you mean the part of the weight outside the bars is a different length? There is a substantial part of the weight inside the hollow handgrips, normally.

If so, are they just fitted incorrectly? Or possible the grips are fitted badly?

Mine were both identical, before I took then out and chopped them up :) To make the handlebars less wide.

The LHS end weight measures approx 1" in length ... the RHS is 1 1/2" long???? Is this normal on 1200's and if so WHY? :eek

on the new 1200 adventurer they are indeed different lengths but Y :nenau

They're different lengths on my '06 standard GS too, although I can't remember right now which side is longer.

All I can think is that it's because either:

(a) the left hand grip and switch gear are a different width than the right hand grip (with throttle) and switchgear;

or

(b) the left hand grip and switch gear are a different weight to the right hand side.

:nenau

I'd bet on the first option (making up width on one side to allow the hand guard to line up as well as clear the brake/clutch lever). But I don't think I'll lose any sleep over it.

I should have confirmed that it's the exterior (visible) part of the weights that BiG DoM is referring to as being different lengths. It's nothing to do with poor fitting - the weights are different lengths. I only noticed because I took mine off to fit renthals.

Sounds like a mod that they made on '06 bikes (GS and GS Adv) - maybe those people who have matching weights have pre-'06 (i.e. outdated and inferior :D ) bikes?

And Wizard, are you looking at an up to date parts listing or one from last year?

Mines a 05 with matching weights, obviously they made a cockup with the 06 and had to add heavier weights on one side to keep the bike balanced.

On a serious note i'd love to know why they are differant :nenau
