Handlebar Muffs for a '59 1200GSA!

Has anyone got/tried/used the 'Nippy Normans' handlebar muffs?
I'm thinking about investing in them for the winter.

I've got the heated grips/gloves combination, but after a while the fingers tips still get cold in sub-zero tempretures.
I seem to suffer from bad circulation, get it in the toes aswell, but not as bad! :nenau :rob

Any advice would be most helpful,

I get it, its hereditary.

I had some cheap muffs from ebay for the last two winters on a scooter c/w Klan heated gloves. On sportsbike I've suffered like a trooper :blagblah

Another recommend from me for the ones sold by Val.H :thumb2

I used to think that muffs looked a bit stupid on a bike until I tried them for myself a few winters ago. Who cares if they look stupid when you can still use summer gloves in winter and have toasty hands.
 
I've had the Muffs on for 2 weeks now, and they are superb!
Summer gloves, and only had the heated grips on once when we had that real cold morning! :D

But, i've found a flaw in them....

This morning it absolutely chucked it down, the motorway traffic was down to 40mph it was so bad and all the water ran down my jacket sleeves into the bottom part of the muffs :blast making the fur lining soaked through!

Had to get the her hairdryer on them to try to dry them out :(

Maybe i should get some 'Apehangers' fitted to keep my arms upright???

I've noticed that happens, not been unknown for me to tip a pool of water out of them.

They still do an excellent job though and help keep my hands a lot more toasty than they would be without them.

I have just made my own muffs. I cut the sides from a 5 litre bottle of screen wash, though any 5 litre plastic container would do. I have used good ol' Duct Tape to fit them to the existing hand guards and they work a treat. Just done a 500 round trip in freezing conditions and my hands were warm n toasty. The plastic adds the extra height and windchill protection to the fitted hand guards.

They are also safer than traditional muffs as there is no having to 'feed your hand in' to the muff. The hand access is uninterrupted.

They may look homemade and they are but they cost nothing and they work very well.

Picture would be good, sounds like a cross between muffs and hand guards.
 
I to have raynaud's,naffing painfull too

I have fitted VERN,S Tucano's,they are chuffing brilliant:bounce1

Came back from France last week in snow/sleet and driving rain,never got my hand's wet or cold,When i first had them i even had to get a new pair of glove's,thinner one's at that too.
 
Anyone with Raynaud's or arthritic fingers is better off with a heated jacket - ideally one with heated sleeves not a vest.

I've never seen the point in fur lining a handlebar muff - its not exactly sealed to the rider's sleeves. @Jotadude's idea makes sense to deflect the wind chill/jet wash/gale up sleeves. Neoprene covers over the hand guards would be nice but full on muffs are too much for me. Take a hand out to wipe the visor and you can struggle to get it back into the bar muff. Anyway, my hands feel claustrophobic!
 
After 10 years of GS ownership I finally get around to fitting Muffs (thanks Val)

I like them because I like to use thin rally gloves and muffs means I now have more control and warm hands.

The getting in and out of Muffs does not seem a problem, on full lock they touch your arm but that's just something to get use to.
 
I had bar muffs on a bike many years ago. Remove a hand while moving and the muff top would blow flat in the slipstream. It was awkward to get the hand back in again, so I took them off and have never tried again.

So it's not just me. I find the Tucano Urbano muffs really cramped around the controls (indicators, start, heated grip on off, Info, etc) so took them off after three days and am now looking for an alternative. They're well made and warm though but just don't suit my spade hands. Hippo Hands look huge!

Yeah, I agree. Also, I've had problems with the clutch and brake being 'pushed' in at high speed in the past :eek

However.................the GS has hand guards and these stop either of the above happening. Reckon you should give the muffs another go as I'd never be without them (Tucano) at this time of year on my GS :thumb2
